According to unconfirmed rumours posted on nexus404, Apple is to launch a Hexacore Xeon Mac Pro in 2010. Now if any of you have of you have ever used any Xeon processors, you will know how impressive this piece of kit will be as Xeon processors usually blow all other processors out of the water by a long shot.
Now the 6-core 12-thread Intel Xeon processor with 32nm processes and 12MB of shared cache isn’t the only party trick this Mac Pro has under its sleeve, it has a custom motherboard with support for 8 and 16GB memory modules for support up to 128GB of RAM. It also has rumoured 10Gbit/s Ethernet connectivity.
Now this all sounds fantastic, but there is a downside. Now even though this unit hasn’t been officially confirmed, and neither has a price for it (obviously). But it isn’t any stretch of the imagination to think that this could be one of the most pricey bits of technology you will ever own, and during the present economic climate is that such a wise idea?
