Apple to convert prospective Window 7 customers to Mac

According to an article posted at MacRumours.com, Apple could soon begin an advertising push targeting the much anticipated Windows 7 which goes live later this month. It seems the advertisement campaign will try and convert prospective Windows 7 buyers over to Mac instead.

Apple is expected to make its usual statements about Mac being a lot more resistant to viruses and that it is designed to go hand-in-hand with users iPod’s and iPhone’s. Also it seems that they are going to try and take advantage of the fact that users upgrading to Windows 7 will have to go through the usual process of backing all their data up to an external drive, then formatting and re-installing and going through the long process of putting all their programs back on (if compatible). Phil Schiller, Senior Vice President of Apple says that “Any user that reads all those steps is probably going to freak out. If you have to go through all that, why not just buy a Mac?”.

Personally I don’t think this statement makes any sense at all. For starters you would have to go through the exact same process when upgrading to a Mac, and you would require entirely new hardware to do so (and Windows 7 will most likeley run on the hardware you already own). Also more of less none of your old programs would work on a Mac. I really don’t see the advantage of moving to a Mac, and as Apple technology has become more and more popular they no longer have their key selling point that Mac is practically inpenetrable to viruses. This year we have reported on many viruses which actually end up in users having to throw away equipment if infected because there is no way of fixing it.
