Acer Number two PC Maker: Dell Down to Three

Acer Number two PC Maker: Dell Down to Three

By: Peter Chubb | October 15, 2009 | Leave a Comment

Dell had been the World’s number one PC maker, but HP pushed them to the second spot a few years back now. Dell had held on to the Number two spot since then but have come under increasing pressure from Acer.

Acer have finally achieved their target by pushing Dell from the No.2 spot, Acer are now the number two PC maker in the world, with Dell now laying at number three. It seems that things just keep getting worse for Dell; they will now have to watch their backs and keep a close eye on Lenovo, who are currently at number four.

HP had 19.9 percent of the sales in the third quarter of 2009; Acer had 15.4, with Dell at 12.8 percent. Lenovo had just 8.5 percent of the total PC sales in Q3 of 2009. This must be a total shock for Dell, once the PC king, now relegated to third.

The original article was reported on Business Wire, but Engadget thought that they would look at the US sales figures as well. Dell is at number one with 26.2%, HP at number two with 25.7 and Acer at number three with 13.9%.
