Sprint: First 4G Phone Will Be Android
By: Peter Chubb | October 14, 2009 | Leave a CommentThe beginning of 2009 was not a good time for Sprint, but with its Palm Pre due for launch early in the year, all hopes had been pinned on its success. The Pre was not as successful as they had hoped, but with a succession of new phones and more on the way, the network carrier is showing that they have fight.
While at the CTIA and the MotoDev Summit last week, Android and Me caught up with a Sprint developer. He was asked how committed Sprint was to the Android program, he answered “Our first 4G phone will be Android.” Now that was strange how he chose to mention 4G handsets, but very exciting news.
There have been a number of rumors that Samsung are to make the 4G Android device for Sprint, so looks like all the pieces are finally coming together. Sprint is expected to launch their first 4G handset sometime in 2010, which is great news, let us hope the network is ready.
It is great to see that Sprint is now proving its doubters wrong, they could have curled up in a ball and gave in, but it proves that they are fighters. The Palm Pre was not the iPhone killer that we thought it was going to be, but they will not give in and a 4G Android in 2010 should give them another great year.
