New VW Beetle in 2012: Gets bigger back seats

Back in 1998 VW decided to bring back an icon, what we got was the “New Beetle”. This proved a very popular decision and sales figures went through the roof, but Volkswagen has seen those sales figures steadily drop to almost nothing.

Autoblog explains that there are a number of reasons for this, one being that the rear quarters were too small. AutoWeek have announced that VW are working on a new Beetle for 2012 and will have bigger back seats, something that will be great news for the American market.

Stefan Jacoby, president and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America was recently at a press event in Germany, he said that the new Beetle is expected to sell in greater numbers than the previous model has. It is hoped that the larger seats and better packaging will be enough to achieve that target.

2012 could be a perfect time for VW to launch its next Beetle as more Americans are starting to ditch their gas guzzling vehicles in favor of fuel-efficient models. Hopefully, in that time a vast amount of Americans will want a small vehicle, such as the new VW Beetle.
