HTC Imagio and Samsung Omnia 2: Verizon Wireless Current Best
Filed under: Cell Phones, Handsets

A few weeks back we did an article about Verizon not having any decent smartphones. It seems that the future is about to get a whole lot better North America’s favorite network carrier. Verizon Wireless are about to get the HTC Imagio and Samsung Omnia 2, and let us not forget about the recent news of their first Google Android handset.
InfoSync explains that before Verizon users can get their hands on the Android phone, they will have to use these new handsets, which will run on Windows Mobile. Not that there is anything wrong with WinMo, the OS is currently dominating the Verizon lineup.
There is now a huge range of Windows Mobile handsets, but the HTC Imagio has to be the best on offer. The Samsung Omnia II has not had all the hype of the Imagio, but do not think that it is any less of a phone. The great feature with the Omnia II is that it has two apps stores on board.
Windows Mobile would have taken a knock when Verizon and Google announced the launch of their first Android phone together. However, both the HTC Imagio and Samsung Omnia 2 are the current best for Verizon, and no Android is going to spoil that.

What are you talking about?
The Omnia2 has been talked about all year and if you go to VZW’s website you will see a blog with over 5100 posts regarding the O2 and when it will be released.
I purchased the Imagio and I am packaging it up and sending it back today. I will wait for the O2 to come out because the Imagio is a horrible phone.
I agree – the Omnia 2 and even the current Omnia tops any of HTC’s hardware hands-down. Faster CPU and a smaller, lighter form factor beats a thick, heavy brick every time.
Nathan:
Why are you returning the Imagio? What do you specifically not like about it? Because, I have been waiting for the Omnia 2 or Omnia HD for about 5 months and I am about to break down and buy the Imagio. But, if it truly sucks as you say I will hold off (or dare I say go to AT&T for the iPhone). Everything I have read about the Imagio says its pretty good.
If you think the imagio is a heavy brick Joker head than you do not have it. It is gorgeous, the screen is brillant, it is snappy and responsive, the 5 MP camera is awesome (even though most reviews say its substandard, don’t know what their talking about), the auto-rotate works marvelously, internet browsing with opera with htc’s zoom bar is quick and intuitive On screen keyboard is best on screen I’ve ever used. Kenetic scrolling is excellent and not clunky like andriod’s and all other WM6.x phones. People who don’t like it are the complete tech illiterate but htc has made it very much easier to use than previous win mo phones. I would not return this phone for any samsung piece of rubbish not only that, but I almost have my first custom rom finished, waiting for spl. This is my 3rd htc device (had xv6800 and touch pro) and this is the most complete out of the box htc I’ve ever had. Kudos htc.
Hello I have the HTC Imagio i recently got it andso far i think its the best phone out in the market. Dare to say the Iphone is a terrible phone. Nothing compare to the Imagio.
I have a third Omnia 1 (I returned the others two) Is the worst cell phone I had. Hope the new 2 not be the same shit.
Rafael, you have to remember the US is about 8-12 months behind the rest of the world. And since it’s Verizon, add another 6 months. When the original Omnia came out, it was a GREAT phone…very advanced for it’s time…the reason why you think it sucks is because Verizon released it about 9 months after it came out to the rest of the world, and that time in electronics is enough to make something look very obsolete. Also to clarify the author of this article is a moron. The Omnia II is STILL not out on verizon. I am on AT&T and I use the OmniaHD (Unlocked). There’s no US 3G band support, so I am forced to use EDGE…but it’s the best phone I’ve ever seen in my life. Regarding the Imagio and TouchPro 2 — they don’t even have a flash for their cameras! The Imagio has a 5MP cam but the TouchPro2 is only 3.2 MP!! Also they use crappy quallcomm MSM ARM11 processors. The OmniaII has a much better processor and supports hardware 3d and video decoding. And these are verizons top phones? My OmniaHD has an 8MP cam and can shoot 720p video LOL. Verizon, get with the times.
What’s also funny is that Verizon still considers the original Omnia one of their top “high end” phones.
Does anyone know if the new Samsung Omnia II’s touchscreen is resistive (like the LG Dare) or capacitive (like the iPhone or Droid)? I have a Dare right now and love it because i can use my fingernails and be more precise while browsing the net… Anyone?
Resistive. Check out phone arena dot com for list of specifications. Tentative date is Dec 2nd for release.
