T-Mobile Sidekick Outage Update: Lost data is gone forever

By: Alan Ng | October 11, 2009 | 11 Comments

Well it looks like the T-Mobile Sidekick saga has taken another ‘turn’ for the worse, after T-Mobile have issued a statement saying that lost data could be gone forever as a result of the huge Danger server failure.

Last week we reported to you that Microsoft were trying to restore their data services along with address books and calendars as many Sidekick owners only had access to voice calls and texting.

Even though they said that data service should be resumed soon, both T-Mobile and Microsoft have now made a joint statement saying that lost data stored on their cloud servers is ‘highly’ likely to be gone forever.

This is a major problem you feel, with thousands of customers affected, and a problem that will not be sorted by offering a small credit to customers accounts.

A while ago, we asked you the question: Are you still affected? But the question now seems to point to: Have T-Mobile lost their reputation as a network?

You can read more on the recent statement over at PCMag here. Let us know how you are feeling about the whole situation at the moment.

T-Mobile has lost all credibility. The outage was bad enough, but the customer service exacerbated it. I still had my contacts until a customer service rep told me to remove it and reset. Then the next person said I shouldn’t have done that and directed me to the Web site where it said not to. Nobody, including the supervisor, took responsibility for the bad information. They continue to tout giving one month free data that was offered a week ago. Absolute disaster. I love T-Mobile and have always had good service, but they bungled this so badly I have no faith in the company.
Went to a T-Mobile store and asked if I could keep my e-mail if I changed to their smart phone and whether it used a different server. They didn’t understand my question.

Tmobile agents misled me causing me to lose more data than if properly informed when I called. I expect more than $30 as compensation. This was a disaster over 3 weeks and counting. Disruptions began long before complete loss of data.

As a member of t-mobile for 3 years. I can say this is the worst outage I have experienced. Luckily I have backed up my contact list upon my SIMS card.

So for those who have already and wisely have done so. No worries for you. If not, well you know what to do when you get all the information back. MAKE A BACKUP!

Uh Bill….^^^^ We are not getting it back, hello!?

Actually if you have made a backup on your SIMS card. To view your SIM CARD contacts go to the following

    -menu
    -Settings
    -SIM Center
-View SIM card contacts (Here you will see all of your contacts that you have inserted onto your SIMS card)

To transfer the SIMS contacts to your sidekick simply go to

-Address book from the jump screen
    -Menu
    -Settings
    -Import SIMS contacts

For future reference to copy your contacts onto your SIMS card (Just for backups)

    -Address book
-Select your contact you want to copy onto your SIMS CARD
    -Menu
    -Copy to SIM CARD

The same thing happened to me! I’ve been reading up on this outage, and just a few days before this disaster hit, my phone had been dropped in water, so I changed to my old blast, ordered a new sidekick, without knowing about the server failure. Then I called the other day before the message was posted to not turn off your phone, and the lady on the line told me to do a reset on it…Now everythings gone. :( Is there some sort of lawsuit that could be handled by that? I didnt even get a chance to back it all up when I couldve, since I didnt know that it would be gone when I reset it.
I love tmobile, but after just paying another $200 on a new sidekick when all this happens, and find out I probably wont ever be able to use it again, is making me want to change providers. A web credit is DEFINITELY not enough.

Saving to the sum is great for numbers but what about emails… Addresses…..photos? Sum didn’t save that.

Microsoft and T-Mobile have two giant pies on their faces. The credibility of the T-Mobile network is in serous jeopardy. I would not be surprised to see the other cell phone carriers pounce on this like lions on a lame gazelle.
T-Mobile customer service was of no help. When I called them they first tried to blame me, because I turned the phone off and removed the Sidekick battery thinking the phone had locked up. Only after about 5 minutes did they sheepishly tell me “there is some bad news about our servers”. I have about 6 months to go with my T-Mobile contract and now will seriously rethink about renewing.
