Powermat Charging System: First Wave of Wireless Chargers

Powermat Charging System: First Wave of Wireless Chargers

By: Peter Chubb | October 9, 2009 | 1 Comment

With the introduction of the Palm Touchstone for the Pre and the Powermate, we are seeing just the first wave of wireless charges. The future of charging is no longer with cables, which will be seen as a relief to many. There is one drawback, and that is the price of these new systems, hopefully these will start to fall as the new wireless charges become more popular.

The Palm Touchstone is a great device, but can only be used to charge the Pre Smartphone. The best on the market at this time is the recently launched Powermat Charging System. This device will allow you to charge multiple devices from one mat.

As always, there is always a drawback, with this system you will first need to purchase the mat, then with each device you wish to charge you will need a case to place your iPhone, BlackBerry, DS or other device in to. As you can see, this will become an expensive solution for charging.

Nokia are also trying to push through its wireless charging system, but there could be a problem looming. All users want is a single charging solution for charging their devices, and the Micro USB has already been taken up as the standard for today’s devices.

How can they get away with using the term "Wireless" when it is not wireless? You are still charging via a wire, it's just been repackaged in another manner. I thought this was a trick when I first heard of them and now I find out that I was right. In today's society manufacturers can get away with anything, especially false advertising. And 99% of Americans will fall for it is the sad part.
