It has been reported that supply for flash memory, most notably NAND flash is at an all-time low, with the main cause said to be due to popularity for Apple’s portable devices such as the iPhone and iPod.
As reported from Apple Insider, it turns out that demand for flash memory in the third quarter of 2009 exceeded supply by an estimated 1.3 percent, according to the latest figures from DRAMeXchange.
Worse yet, this figure is expected to rise to 3.3 percent as we enter the holiday season, with manufacturers likely to favor Apple and their devices.
As a result of the shortage, many module makers in Taiwan are now looking elsewhere for flash memory, where usually, they would go to Samsung for supply.
