Verizon Wireless: iPhone equivalent on their network?

Verizon Wireless: iPhone equivalent on their network?

By: Peter Chubb | October 8, 2009 | 7 Comments

For two years now the same question is being asked, what Verizon Wireless cell phone is the most equivalent to the Apple iPhone. Since AT&T got the exclusivity of the iPhone back in 2007, Verizon customers have been hoping to get their hands on the iPhone. This makes us wonder if Verizon actually has an equivalent.

When we take a closer look, it seems that Verizon is lacking in the handset department, which we discussed in our recent article “Verizon’s network, the iPhone, and lack of good smartphones.” However, although Verizon do not have the best Smartphones on the market, they do have a few good ones.

Back in 2008, the best iPhone equivalent on their network was the LG Voyager and the Samsung Glyde. Today there are a few more to take the fight to Apple and AT&T, these include the HTC Touch Pro and HTC Imagio. Both are good phones, but not one will worry the iPhone.

What phones do you think are the iPhone equivalent on Verizon Wireless?

Following on from our post the other day “No Verizon iPhone in 2010,” it was hoped that Verizon was to get the iPhone in 2010 once the AT&T exclusivity ended with Apple. There are a number of factors for the reason of not having a Verizon iPhone; this will not come as much comfort to Verizon customers as they cannot wait to get their hands on what is considered the best Smartphone on the market.

I wonder why so many companies are trying to copy the iPhone?

Since it’s such a horrible device… why does ever cell provider want something almost identical to it?

    Hmmmm…..

Why does every cell phone manufacturer want to copy the iPhone????

If AT&T and the iPhone are so awful… why do countless companies keep trying to make copies of it???

    (and fail)

There is no phone like the iphone anywhere… it can do anything. It IS hands down the best handset ever made. I don’t even have one so im not a little fanboy

No one says the iPhone is awful. Just AT&T

No apps for the Voyager that are worth anything. They don’t even try to exploit what they got to the fullist.

I’ve had the iPhone 3 GS 16 for the past three days. Despite the outward “coolness” of the device I have a number of serious complaints.

1: The “intelligent” and supremely annoying Apple interface, which wants to do things for you whether you like it, or nor.

2: The lousy battery life, averaging only about two hours when surfing on the crappy AT&T network.

3: The imprecise, touch screen-only interface, growl!

4: The phone functionality itself is incredibly clumsy and inconvenient.

5: Back to the interface. The Apple interfaces, including all of their computers and iPods seem to have been designed by smart people – for morons. They remind me of cars with automatic transmissions – which I despise, preferring to have positive, clear, instant choices, rather than clumsy, usually inaccurate and mushy ones.

Some of the apps are cool, such as Google Maps and Google Earth. That doesn’t redeem the bad features of the iPhone, particularly that the many of the aps are also available for other smart phones, running on better networks.

In short: The iPhone is going back to the Apple store, my old phone is getting re-activated and as soon as my AT&T contract expires, I am moving to Verizon.
