Verizon-iPhone: IDC analysts give opinion

Buzz This

Following on from the news earlier this week about Verizon and Google’s plans to bring more Android handsets to Verizon Wireless, we are now hearing from analysts that a deal to bring the Apple iPhone to Verizon is ‘unlikely’ to happen.

As reported from ComputerWorld, it is no secret that many AT&T iPhone users have grown frustrated with the service they are getting, but we are still no closer to hearing if Apple are ready to jump to other carriers in the U.S.

Scott Ellison, an IDC analyst thinks that AT&T have been ”completely unprepared” with the iPhone. As a result of this, he believes that Verizon will raise their data rates in a move which will highlight AT&T’s difficulties further.

Heres the interesting bit though, three IDC analysts have stated that Verizon ”probably” won’t get an iPhone before they convert to an LTE network in two years.

This latest move with Google is clear indication that Verizon are willing to rely on Android phones to carry the network forward, until they upgrade their speeds which could accomodate the iPhone better.

Let us know your thoughts on this, you can read more on this over at Computer World.

this article is wrong…if verizon is going to get the iphone when they upgrade to LTE or 4G, that will be around the time that the ATT exclusivity is up. it is a known fact to a lot of forums that i have read that verizon and ATT both are to be moving to LTE in around june 2010…just my thoughts

However by June 2010 Verizon’s LTE network won’t be widespread enough for a complete network coverage for the iPhone.

this article is wrong in that ” three IDC analysts have stated that Verizon ”probably” won’t get an iPhone before they convert to an LTE network in two years.” L.T.E. is actually going up in 30 major cities as we speak. It will be launching in jan 2010. Not two years from now. Is this article confused with at&t’s goal for launch at 2013? Yeah. Nationwide coverage is 2013.
I’m starting to buy into the rumor awhile back about a Veirzon iphone “lite”.

is there a key for all the acronyms in the text??

Well the iPhone is going to be like the Blackberry soon enough every carrier will have it. Just wait either Verizon will get the iPhone or they will make something like they already have that is extremely similar to it. All it is: Apps, Internet, Games, Music, and just everything that a regular phone has. Verizon has already started doing apps on their phones like on the Droid, which is similar to the iPhone but I think that it is better in a way. It is faster than the iPhone. And the only bad thing that I have heard about the Droid is that the back battery cover falls of semi-easily. Which isn’t all that bad you know, it’s still a nice phone. Everything about the faster internet on the AT&T is true though only if you have service in that area, which Verizon gets way more places than AT&T does. So those commercials that AT&T are making don’t make any sense to me because what’s the use in having just a semi-faster internet if you can’t use it? This whole debate is just rediculous.
