Verizon iPhone: How will it differ from AT&T?
By: Peter Chubb | October 8, 2009 | 14 CommentsA day does not go by when something is asked about a possible Verizon iPhone, this just show’s how popular it would be if Apple did end the exclusivity with AT&T one the Smartphone. One of the latest questions being asked is, “What would a Verizon iPhone be like?” That is certainly a good question; would a Verizon iPhone actually be any different to an AT&T version?
The iPhone Blog raised the question, as it is no secret that most of the US wishes for Verizon to get the iPhone. The website wonders what a Verizon iPhone would be like; the quickest answer that we could come up with is better reception for call and 3G coverage as well as better customer services.
Developer Marco Arment has decided to try to answer the question and it seems that everything will not be sweet if Verizon were to get their hands on the iPhone. He states that Verizon would demand “30-50% commission on all on-device App Store sales.” It is also possible that the App Store would need to be replaced with a Verizon version.
Arment says it is for these reasons that we have yet to see a Verizon iPhone; it makes you wonder if we will ever see it happen. Arment reckons that Apple did have a meeting with Verizon, and it did not go that well.
