Some interesting news to report now, as analysts have predicted that Google’s Android platform will overtake the Apple iPhone in terms of overall market share by the year 2012.
The news is according to his report from Apple Insider, who have obtained their info from Ken Dulaney - Vice President and an analyst with research firm Gartner.
According to him, he expects the iPhone to remain in third position, but thinks that the Android platform will overtake Research In Motion (RIM) into second, leaving Nokia’s Symbian OS to remain in first place.
With Android phones coming out by the day it seems, whos to say that his prediction will be wrong? Let us know your thoughts on this.

I need to use my iPhone *TODAY*… why should I worry about 2012 and beyond????
Besides… do you buy cell phones based on what *YOU* like and need… or based on “what is popular with other people”????
I wonder if AT&T will be the sole purveyor of the iPhone in 2012. Or isn’t that in the model. Also, how many good ideas will Cupertino release by 2012. Are they in the projections, too?
It’s not about just the software, like Microsoft, or hardware, like Motorola. It’s about total use experience. What it matters to Apple is iPhone be the best in total experience.
Garbage! You cannot use 3 applications at the same time as you can on Android. The “total” user experience on Android is already *much* more functional than the iPhone.
Apple and AT&T are just now allowing VOIP on the iPhone, probably to compete with the free calls to anywhere in North America that you can get with an Android phone running Google Voice.
Take a serious look at the HTC Hero and their custom “HTC Sense” customization to Android, then you can decide if the iPhone really provides a better “total use experience”. The ability to run more than a single application at a time more than makes up for any perceived lack-of-style.
As usual, the analysts at Gartner are showing that they rode short buses to school. No one really knows what capability mobile devices will have in nearly 3 years or what ‘additional’ technology will be readily available to the consumer. 10 years ago, anyone with a new Palm Pilot thought they were approaching individual Diety status. All anyone can say for sure is that things will continue to drastically change with technology and, based on their track record, Apple will piss off enough people to lose their leading edge and drop the ball.
I think the Apple OS was one of the best one out until android. This will definitely take over the market share.
