BlackBerry Bold 2: T-Mobile, AT&T Onyx 9700 Release Update

By: Peter Chubb | October 8, 2009 | 2 Comments

We have learned that both AT&T and T-Mobile will be making an announcement on the upcoming RIM BlackBerry 2 on October 21. The handset, which is also known as Onyx and has the model number 9700, is a touchpad driven device.

The handset has had its fare share of rumors in recent months, and they are getting more frequent as we move closer to the release date. Engadget explains that the BlackBerry Bold 2 is the successor to the one handset that a number of celebrities have, so no worries about the new model doing well then.

We now know the retail launch date, but the one thing that is still missing is pricing details. We can be sure that the price will not be too high, as AT&T and T-Mobile wish the handset to be as popular as the previous model, and you need reasonable pricing to do that.

We recently came across some great leaked shots of the BlackBerry 9700 ‘Onyx. The images are certainly better in detail than some of the leaked images in the past. There are six photos in total; all were found from the guys at IntoMobile.

The T-mobile version will have a leather looking battery cover. which the pics do not show.

Just FYI- the blackberry bold was named the highest phone to give off radiation than any other phone on the market. which sucks. The blackberry 8700 was in 2nd place. Thats BAD news for RIM.

I actually have a pic of an AT&T model with the leather backing which I personally find to be stupid. As of now, it is the only 3G UMA phone in the US (since T-Mobile is the only UMA carrier in the US), but I am guessing the prices would be as follows:
    $250 – 2 year
    $400 – 1 year
    $600 – No Contract

I don’t have any inside knowledge, just my guess, although I personally would rather the price be lower especially since there are other smart phones that are less pricey, and tends to the market more.
