Back in January a new disaster proof external hardrive was created by ioSafe, this drive was called the ioSafe Solo, the drive is said to be able to cope with almost any disaster situation thrown at it such as a flood, a fire or even a building collapsing, the drive is not shockproof.
SlipperyBrick have finally decided to test these claims by putting the drive through its paces, ioSafe claim that the drive can handle temperatures of up to 1550 degrees Fahrenheit for up to 30 minutes and submersion in 10 feet of water for 3 days.
The first test that SlipperyBrick put the drive through involved cooking the drive on an outdoor gas grill, this produced a temperature of approximately 600 degrees Fahrenheit, the drive was cooked on all sides, there was some minor discoloration, straight from this the drive was then submerged in water for 2 hours.
After all tests were over the drive was dismantled and the hard disk was taken out, the drive was slightly warm but still appeared to be fine, the drive was then plugged into a PC via USB, the drive functioned fine and operated quietly and smoothly, to find out more check out SlipperyBrick’s article.
