The recent Hotmail phishing attack that affected 10,000 users revealed some startling news about user’s passwords. It seems that the most popular password was 12345, something that has shocked security researchers. It seems strange that Hotmail users will choose the simplest password considering the advice to choose a more complex password.
PCPro reports that the second most popular password is 123456789, other passwords include, 12345678 and 111111. It is no wonder that these accounts have come under such attacks. Other passwords were the user’s names.
These names include Alejandra, Alejandro and Alberto, showing that the phishing attack was targeting only Latino users. The report, which comes from Bogdan Calin’s blog, stated that the longest password had 30 characters the shortest had just one.
Hotmail is not the only email account coming under attack, we recently reported that Google Mail also have its own phishing attack problem.
