Google Voice on iPhone: Verizon Wireless would allow

Currently the iPhone is on AT&T, and this has upset a few cell phone users than need/want the coverage and service of Verizon Wireless. There are many reasons why some users prefer Verizon to AT&T - list yours in the comments if you wish - but we want to focus on VoIP.

According to itwire.com, “AT&T still blocks Google Voice” but will allow you to use VoIP apps thanks to a recent announcement. Does this mean future Google Voice support on the iPhone, or will that keep being blocked?

We have learned that Verizon Wireless will support Google Voice, but what would we expect with a partnership with Google and its Android OS. We also need to look at the fact that if Verizon were to get the iPhone, then we can be certain that they will offer Google Voice support.

We would like to know what your opinion is over the favoritism that seems to be happening with certain VoIP apps. Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

    I have an iPhone.
I’ve been making VOIP calls… over 3G cell towers… totally for free… all over the US… using Google-Voice. (Being doing it for a year now.)

I just don’t see the point: It wastes my cell minutes… at the same rate as just making a regular AT&T call. And I have to be within a cell tower range either way.

Now… if I could use Google-Voice over *Wi-Fi* that would make sense. No cost. No minutes used. No need to be anywhere near a cell tower.

    But that’s (currently) impossible.

Why is everyone saying: Wi-Fi is possible, but useless… we want VOIP on 3G?

(I never call outside the US. No need to. I have very strong wi-fi all over my home… all over my office building… and all over restaurants, airports, hotels, even McDonalds.)
