Following on from our earlier story which told you about an upcoming conference call between Google and Verizon, we can now confirm that the meeting did indeed take place and that both companies are due to announce new Android handsets soon.
As reported from BGR, the announcement of new handsets is expected ‘within the next few weeks’. The new partnership will see Verizon devote a portion of their resources into developing and selling phones which will be powered by Google’s Android software.
Meanwhile over at Yahoo, they believe that Verizon have made a ‘big’ deal about the partnership, as they hope to compete with the Apple iPhone, which still remains exclusive on AT&T in the US.

If not for AT&T and its ridiculous plans that cost an arm and a leg, I would have bought an iPhone too. “Unlimited” data plans that aren’t unlimited, where SMS/MMS are separate add ons, no tethering, etc, etc… Competition is a beautiful thing. I look forward to it.
