T-Mobile Sidekick Outage: Are you still affected?

It has been reported that there are still a great deal of T-Mobile Sidekick owners who are suffering the effects of a data outage over the weekend, which surely must be a very frustrating experience.

It was only two weeks ago that we reported on a similar outage occuring for BlackBerry users, but it looks as if T-Mobile has jumped on the bandwagon.

Over at BGR, they are stating that T-Mobile Sidekick users are only able to make calls and send texts at the moment, meaning that email, contacts and IM are still unavailable.

    I used to work for T-mobile and the way the sidekicks are setup is kinda ridiculous.

    TIP #1: DO NOT LET YOUR SIDEKICK DIE!!! YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR DATA UNTIL DATA SERVICES ARE RESTORED.

    TIP #2: DO NOT CALL CUSTOMER CARE!!!!!! THEY WILL MAKE YOUR DATA/INFORMATION GET DELETED BY DOING A MASTER RESET ON THE DEVICE. THIS IS A TROUBLESHOOTING FLOW THEY MUST FOLLOW. YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR INFO BACK UNTIL DATA SERVICES ARE RESTORED.

    yes i’m still affected. to everyone else: CALL 611! yell at them how it’s ruining your life. they’ll credit your account. i got one month free sidekick unlimited ($19.99). it’s worth it. IF you are staying with t-mobile.

    i don’t know if i can. because they promised me that things would be back to normal this morning. and i still have all the same issues i had since early friday.

    Yeah im still unable to see an data, losing my contacts is the absolue worst, but customer care were sweet and did give me a 35 dollar credit. That’s nice and everything but id rather just have a working phone.

    Internet is working sporadically – you won’t see the 3 dots but at lesast I can access GMail, Facebook, etc..

    Still can’t get an updated time on my phone without a manual update, no contacts, no IM, no TMAIL… ridiculous that this is now on day 4, and they told me to call back after the outage was done to ask for a refund, because I love to waste more of my time.

    I have been suffering with the data loss since thursday morning! I am new to Tmboile and the whole reason I got it was JUST for the sk 09 i got the SK last month on the 13th so i have less than a month with the fone…. I have read ALLL the horror stories u could possibly imagine BEFORE i got the fone [ call me crazy ] but i still think its a pretty cool fone i love it… now i dont understand WHYYYYY people are calling CC to yell at them! Do realize that these people [even though they do work for the company] probably have nooo idea what is going on. I do think that the 5 day outage [as i am still w.o data today MONDAY] is a little ridiculous how could the DANGER TECHS let this happen?? Shouldnt they have all the networks safe from these things happening?? SKs are owned by Millions of people and to have this happen is a little irresponsible…Hope the network goes up soon! i miss my fully functional SK!

    yes, my sidekick has been messing up for about a week now. i can only send/receive texts sometimes. no contacts, no email, no internet.

    I live in NYC & I’ve had no sidekick service since 7am Friday morning. I’m only able to make/receive calls & texts. I can’t send or receive picture texts and I don’t have my myfavs, internet, IM, email & download catalog. Service was coming in and out all today (10/05/09). It would come on but 5 minutes later, it would be off. It’s getting really frustrating & I got 1 more month left on my contract.

    Ridiculous…absolutely unacceptable…I have no faith in TMobile’s capability to provide reliable service at this point. A day…maybe…2…maybe…not 4 -7 days…that is absolutely unacceptable!

    Still don’t have any IM, email or contacts in the Seattle area. I might have to cross the water and yell at microsoft myself pretty soon. My phone hasn’t worked properly since Thursday. I haven’t called customer service. I’m just waiting until it comes back to normal before I ask for a credit. Just counting the days..

    Ok just got off the phone with a buddy who works for microsoft and he says the problem WILL be fixed within the next 2 DAYS.
    but as for right now every SK owner… CALL t-mobile and **** on them. Tell them how their service has f****d us all in the ass! Now is the perfect time to either drop tmobile and pick up a nice iphone. Or just buy a new phone. Don’t get the the G1 that phones too slow and stubby . Its a perfect phone for someone who wants to sit around on their ass all day and do nothing plus the camera isn’t ne better then the SK.

    though they are probably losing thousands of dollars because of this.

    for those who can’t seem to live without their phones, there are much bigger problems than dysfunctional phones.

    Don’t know about anyone else, but I have no phone access either. NOTHING since Saturday. I CAN’T call 611. I called customer service from work and she said “Your phone will be working by Monday”. I said “This IS Monday”. And then there was a lot of quiet! About half an hour ago, my phone rang and service was back on, for SIX minutes. All my contacts are gone. I use my phone for my business and can’t imagine what all my clients must be thinking. Sweet.

    It\’s not just kids with these phones. (Okay, normally it is). My regular phone broke and with just 3 months left on my plan, decided to use my daughters old SideKick. Guess I learned, huh? I\’m a mortgage broker and use my phone for hours and hours a day. I\’ve lost all contact numbers, etc.. I\’m sure my customers are a little upset that I haven\’t called since Saturday. I did get into my office and called a few and I\’m sure they greatly believed that my phone was broken! hahaha!!!

    i got an email telling me to login and what my username and password are but where exactly am i supposed to be logging in? anyone know this? don’t feel like calling t-mobile for a forth time this weekend if i don’t have to.

    Same. It’s so frustrating not being able to access my contacts. I’m in college most of the people I talk to I have no idea what their numbers are. Every text I get I have to call the person so I know who it is. The last customer service person I talked to said service would appear gradually starting tonight.

    I have a \”G\” (Sidekick LX-2007) but can only access Internet, IM, WeatherUnderground, Bing Maps, Voice and Texting (SMS/MMS). No Email, Catalog, Calendar/Notes/ToDo Synching.

    It’s 7:40pm here in Minneapolis and I’m still without phone service. I only use my phone for “dialing” and texting. So it’s not just the on-line services that are out. When I called for the first time (out of 3) the person told me to take out my sim card, which means removing the battery. So needless to say…well never mind….it’s just too much. 4 days and counting….

I’M A COLLGE STUDENT AS WELL AND ITS HARD REMEMBERING NUMBERS. I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD BE COMPENSATED WHEN SERVICE WAS RESTORED…WHENEVER THAT IS.     Here it is Monday after 10 pm and STILL no contacts, no calender, no notes (and I had a ton of notes! Ideas, etc), and no email! I only have had my internet restored (thankfully) and my 5 my faves! This SUX!!!!!!!

    T-mobile sucks, I’ve had no data since friday night. I can access the web but I lost all my contacts which I had roughly 150 contacts. Also when I receive texts my phone doesn’t vibrate when its on vibrate or doesn’t make a sound when its on any of the other sound profiles. This is rediculous!!

    Why are you even browsing here instead of hugging a tree or planting your child then? IMO, people like you are the ones who need to get a life. Most people are here because they have a real purpose and you obviously don’t. Pissing people off from behind the monitor isn’t a real purpose btw.

    I’m sure there’s a lot worse things going on in the world right now but I really don’t see how that relates to phone problems. Unlike you, some of us rely on our phones to make plans with friends, get up to date with school activities, or call people for work purposes.

    OT: What really annoys me though is that they didn’t send people warnings – not even a single text message – advising them not to remove their batteries or let their phones die because it will erase their data during the first 2 days of the outage. It simply does not make sense; it only caused more problem for the users and more problem for them. I’m just hoping that they give everyone some sort of compensation for the horrible lack of service.

    go to the t-mobile website and enter your phone number on the log-in screen and click Forgot password. it will send you your username and password directly to your phone inbox.

    we in massachusetts and we still aint got no data services i do think 5 dayz w.o my sidekick working is rediculous!!!! the worst part right now is no contacts..i really hope they get on it and fix this soon and i do believe the company should credit all sidekick users the 34.99 sidekick charge once resolved but thats just me hopefully by morning we have the data services back

    im reading all the comments and I feel the same! it just falt out SUCKS! for such a big company its amazing that for 4 days, 4 whole days, they can’t find a solution to the problem. the most they can do it take $20 off the bill. wow. that still doesn’t help me much. Im getting txts from all these numbers and I have 2 call each one just to see who it is. its rediculous. tmobile needs to get it together. what’s the point of having a sidekick if you can’t use it?

    Data service was restored late at night in my area. Like around 10ish ET. My contacts are still no where to be found and my fave still missing. This has motivated me to get a Blackberry. Even though Blackberry recently had issues it didn’t take them 4 days and in my case still counting to fix them.

    I had a brief few hours of excitement on Monday, October 5th when my Sidekick website got restored. But it down again in the afternoon and as of this Tuesday morning, October 6th, day 5, the outage continues with no email service either.

    This is very frustrating that it is taking so long to resolved this problem.

    Still in the dark, all phone numbers and data lost. I did call and get a credit for the month. I Was initially told it would be repaired Monday morning. Terribly disappointed.

    Im in the same boat as doug. Last night I was able to go on aim but today I can only surf the web. My address bk is messed up and my txts don’t show the name of the sender! When I spoke to CC they said to call back after its been restored. This whole thing is retarded, im back to 2 dots right now.

    As of right now, my contacts have not been restored which has been the biggest kick in the groin. I did speak with customer service yesterday, and when I asked to talk to a supervisor I was told they were in a meeting and would call me back (riiiiight). Still waiting for that callback, but somehow I think I’ll be calling them up again at some point.

    I can’t wait for my contract to expire. I’ve been with T-mobile since they were Voicestream back in 1998 and because of the way this has been handled and how poorly I’ve been treated by customer service, I’ll take my business elsewhere.

    A “soft reset” my ass!!!! That crap didn’t work either, my phone has been trying to signing in for the last past 10 minutes..still no G7, this is bogus. Was with a customer service rep/tech for half an hour, and was told that she couldn’t find anything wrong with my data plan service since I was able to view my username under system information so therefore my service has been restored. Never mind the fact that I can’t receive any emails, or that my text messages remain nameless, and my Download Catalog hasn’t come up. I would be wrong to tell them to credit me for the days of interrupted service, but know that DANGER is behind all this crap. I feel DANGER should issue out credits to all of its Sidekick holders…this is ridiculous…I AM SO FRUSTRATED!!!!

    i have a sidekick prepaid account and i am not liking this one little bit either. tmobile sucks. they even put me on the phone for over 20minutes waiting and listening to stupid phone
    waiting music…i was gettin relentless and i have things to do today…so i hung up called again and then went through the annoying automated lady’s voice and then told the rep that i only had a simple question bout why my sidekick internet wasnt working…then he told me all sk users are having trouble and they are trying to fix the network…see if they had just done that for me before i would not have wasted 20+ minutes of my life… ugggg…

    I had heard that the tmobile service was going to come back yesterday night. Yet all of my friends have the G and im the only one without it. It keeps telling me to sign into my account but it says that the password i entered was not valid. everyone received a text message with a new password and i have not. I am really upset about this.

    Still nothing as far as email. text works but who is calling? All contacts gone, all saved emails gone, inbox empty, outbox empty, sent empty. Consumer pissed. Customer Dis-serve useless. Were it not for four (count ‘em) phones that my wife and kids use and overlapping contracts I’d pull up roots today and switch. Been a loyal customer since ’03 and now getting ’0-NOTHING for it. Been denied credits. Been denied opportunity to switch to Blackberry (on T-Mobile) or split the difference of cost under new contract AND it is useless to switch devices now. I need all my information back FIRST! As deaf consumer this has crippled my ability to stay in touch with important contacts. (Can you tell I am annoyed???)

    Yes, I’m still affected! I am beyond upset. I found out yesterday that I have cancer and I couldn’t even have access to my address book or email my counselor (which is the fastest way to contact him). My local news station wasn’t even aware of this. I even filed a complaint with my state attorney general.

    Yes, I can and agree. As an hearing impaired person my self; the device was great. Got the SK 2 from Harris Communications, got the SK Slide. The phone was great when I had a panic attack too.

    My sidekick is still being impacted by this outage. As of this morning I had some restoration of data access (ie- webpage, IM clients) and now this evening around 4pm ET I lost all data services again. (Located in Pennsylvania)

    For everyone with the SK, this may help a few but maybe not all, try importing contacts thru your SIM card, it may not help every1 bcuz not every1 like me will save their important contacts to their SIM, but I did, and can access a few numbers that way. TMobile…lets GOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

    My G7 is coming and going…but, when I get it, I don’t have my My Faves, and I usually lose the G7 after like an hour or if I turn my phone off & turn it back on. THIS IS RIDICULOUS T-MOBILE, IT’S BEEN DAYSSS NOW, FIX THIS CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!

    Ever since the outage started this past fridayv myb battery is running down much faster than usual. My 09 lx is only a few months old. Most days when I plug into the charger before bed I have at least 60% of battery life left. But now the battery is done by early evening. Is anyone having this problem? Does this have anything to do ith the outage?

    Still out. Tmobile states they are giving everyone next months data at no charge, or whatever. I say give me a phone that works (non-Sidekick)… five days without data is too long. Maybe Microsoft needs to learn how this Danger Network works… Or maybe they bought it then fired all the people who knew what they were doing. I’m just speculating, because I’m angry.. very angry. seriously angry. and they don’t care.

    Hi Kelly, I’m Breanne. I just wanted to say that I’m very sorry to hear of your upsetting news yesterday. I know the feeling somewhat,maybe not exact,because I too have cancer,for over ayear now that I’ve known. I also have an aicd(defibrillator internal)and a pacemaker in myheart,due to sudden cardiac death syndrom. Found out last year, I died on the o r table during the start of cancer surgery. I will pray for you! I know this outage=outrage is making this so much worse for you right now. Try to hang in there hon. I know its hard. We just do our best to get thru each day and hope there will be a brighter 2moro! Sounds like bs now,and I can’t believe I’m even saying it cuz I’ve been so angry&scared&alone.     From NYC . I have text and phone, internet (sort of) and the worthless G..no contacts, pix or email restored. Night 6, still the same worthless response from tmobile. “Our engineers are working on it”..I mean really, whoever heard of ANY system going down for 6 days? Their one month credit offer is pathetic. And they have the NERVE to want to purchase Sprint?? Y, so the entire world will be down, indefinately??

    If you did your research, you would find that this outage and the blackberry outage can be traced back to one company… MS.

    Seriously, who has ever heard of a 6 day data outage?

    T-mobile says Sidekick “is a cornerstone of T-mobile”. But who are they kidding? They have no control over Microsoft Danger and cannot do anything, have not communicated anything properly during this crisis and their retribution is minimal.

    Problem is, this will affect my relationship with T-mobile.

    1 month free data? $20?? Is that what it costs to find as new customer? try 10x that at least. Big mistake.

    This crises management is very, very bad. No information until Sunday on their phone message, then conflicting information (power down vs no power down)

    and STILL no information on their home page or sign in page? Really??? NO information on what is going on, what to do, not to do, or support??

    Did corporate America learn nothing from crisis management in the last 30 years? Its about communication. (Insert irony here….)

    I am one VERY disappointed customer. I used to be a fan. I expect problems with technology, but the breadth of this outage and mismanagement of communication with this one is very wrong.

    My frustration is that some people started loosing data last Friday. MS/Danger and Tmobile knew there was a widespread outage at that point. I had service until Monday. If they had taken the time to say- “Hey you might have a problem, too. Make sure you write down your contacts and calander” I would not be stuck. They can text me when I am 1 day late with my bill, but they can’t send me a message that I to tell me I won’t have service for a week?!??! How does that work?

    Last night, I was excited because I recieved a txt msg with and my alert actully worked. I though I was back in business. Well, the message was from T-mobile and it is the only message that has been able to alert me.

    Last night I removed my battery in pure frustration and I think I might have screwed myself over in doing so. My web works, IM works, call/text works, but my contacts, emails, calendar/notes are still missing. Also, my jump, cancel, back, and go-to buttons aren’t working properly.     Is ther any sk that is fully working? Cuz mines is still not, no contacts, no notes, no calendar events, mail is acting up but my G is up and running.     8 days and I still don’t have my damn contacts.this is complete BS. $20 credit? Really? Do they not understand that people need their phones and contacts for buisness. What good is it for me to use a sidekick and have all of my customers info completely wiped off the face of the earth and Im loosing over a hunderd dollars a day in buisness and they want to give me a $20 credit. Im getting a blackberry and switching to Verizon.     It is OCTOBER 9th!!!! It has been EIGHT DAYS with no data service, email, web. I WANT A NEW, DIFFERENT PHONE OF EQUAL OR GREATER VALUE THAT WILL GIVE ME THE SERVICES I SUBSCRIBED TO!!!     did anyone else in hawaii lose theres around that time?

    now. on october 9, my phone suddenly shut off and now its been trying to turn on for over an hour and the reboot screen has come up 5 times now. is this a sign that maybe they are trying to get the data back?

    i get calling cc to just ask a question about the problem but to totally yell at them is just dumb.

    I still have probs :( I think it came to the UK a bit delayed as I only had the trouble for the last 2 or 3 days. Still not happy with it and hope they sort it out soon.

    I have lost all 358 of my contacts everylast dated schedule that I needed to keep. My faves are here one minute gone the next. Apparently I am not supposed to turn my phone on and off a lot is what a rep told me. Were I work I am not aloud to have a cell phone on period! I got a grant for one month of data service and the only thing that works is the internet on my phone. nothing stays no pics none of the ring tones and ring backs that I paid extra for…NOTHING. This is a sad excuse for service and I will be getting out of this contract soon. I hope that T-mobile takes a serious hit for this because I did…

    My sidekick is still acting up as well, im so glad it happened a month before my contract is up,sucks that I have one more bill but glad its almost over. Tmobile will no longer have me as a costumer.. Im so tired of all the problems they keep having.. No more sidekicks for me.

    Well, they announced that the data is permanently lost. They’re still going to try a couple of things but it doesn’t look good. This is really unbelievable.

    It seems like it is almost back to normal here in pa. Still having small minor problems with my sk 3. I can use the net and I’m, texting, calls, and tmail. The catalog is not up yet and pics don’t show up in my tmail boxes yet plus the phone sometimes pauses by itself which means tmobile and danger is working on it and that is frustrating. Once this outage is over I am switching to a palm treo instead. I am staying with tmobile cause I like their service.

    before the outage, i lost 2 of my notes randomly. then i figured id send alllll my notes to a back up email. boy, am i gladdd i did that.
    and out of 300+ contacts, i now have about 20 saved. which i can deal with, cause talking to 300 people is…yea.
    i am pretty upset about losing my pictures mostly. epic fail for danger/microsoft.

    Alan, especially among those who lost significant data, I think there’s a fair amount of outage outrage among Sidekick-ers. I thought I’d add a strategy for reducing your cell bill by around 20 percent for those T-Mobile customers (or even people with other carriers, for that matter) who want aren’t satisfied and want to go farther than the discounts, coupons and freebies.     This is a shame that since 5pm central time….we still here in new orleans la. have not recieved ouyr service back!!!!!!!!! and why dont we know anything specific as to what is causing this problem with our service!!!!
    I would feel very embarrassed that my whole network just fell off the map !!!!!!!! PLEASE RESTORE OUR SERVICE HERE IN THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS, LA.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
