USB 3.0 isn’t expected to become widely used until next year, however that has not stopped Active Media from releasing their latest USB 3.0 SSD’s, the drives are available in sizes of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.
The USB 3.0 standard should allow these SSD’s to transfer data at up to 4.8Gbits per second, however as this is a peak speed it is more likely to allow reliable transfer rates of up to 240Mb/s (read spreed) and a 160Mb/s (write speed).
The drives will be backward compatible so will also work with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1, the drives are also powered via USB.
It is thought that the drives will be available very soon and will retail at around $89 for 16GB, $119 for 32GB and $209 for 64GB, find out more on SlashGear.
