Verizon Wireless iPhone Deal: Analysts to Apple

Verizon Wireless iPhone Deal: Analysts to Apple

By: Peter Chubb | October 3, 2009 | 38 Comments

The U.S. and the rest of the world are still in a recession so there is less money to go around, but that has not stopped consumer’s obsession with having the latest cell phone. It is no secret that the handset to have is the Apple iPhone, and if you thought that the king of the Smartphones was popular now, you wait until Apple finally lifts the exclusivity deal that it has with AT&T and allows Verizon Wireless to shift the units as well.

PC World reports that a Morgan Stanley analyst has been looking more closely at a Verizon Wireless iPhone deal, and thought that she would offer his own predictions. In a published report, it states that if Apple added Verizon in on the iPhone deal, then Apple’s shares would jump up from 4.9 percent up to 12.2 percent.

Kathryn Huberty is the analyst who has come up with these bold claims, she just wanted to make her case about how great the potential of an Verizon iPhone deal would be, not just for Apple and Verizon, but also for American cell phone users.

Huberty stated that when Orange had lost its iPhone exclusive deal with Apple in France, the iPhone’s market share rose by a massive 136 percent. If these finding are correct, then the same could happen in the U.S. and will shortly happen in the UK, as O2 have also lost its exclusivity deal with the iPhone.

The day the iphone is on Verizon is the day my wife and I get one. Until then no iphone. Had ATT once b4 and they never do what they say they can. The iphone (the phone) needs to be on the network. Hello.

  • Aaron G

once they go with Verizon i will get the phone once it has the network to go with it

  • scott

verizon has waited to long to get the iphone, already. the only reason my wife and i dont have the iphone is because verizon hasnt picked it up yet. The sooner the better!!!!!

  • AMontgomery

Agree! My husband and I love the service we receive through Verizon. We’d also both love an iPhone, but not at the risk of crappy service. Come on Verizon!

  • Jordan

ATT is better than Verizon. I’m happy all Verizon people will be able to get iPhones though.

  • Nan

I would forfeit $200 to go back to Verizon if they offered the iPhone. AT&T coverage and services stink.

  • Cindy

I love Verizon and will IMMEDIATELY get the iphone if they go with Verizon. We are on a family plan and EVERYONE – all 5 of us – will make that change!

  • Brian

I’m on the same page…my wife and I will both have an iphone as soon as it becomes available on Verizon. No way I’m going to AT&T, even though it kills me when I see my peers with an iphone. We use AT&T at work and there is no comparison with Verizon’s service that I get on my personal cell.

Come on Verizon…. I am a current Verizon member and I have the blackberry storm. I would trade right now for an iphone if I could keep Verizon. I had AT@T once… Never again! Not only was the network horrible, so was the customer so was the customer service. I was constantly over charged and had to fight with them every month!!!! Come on Verizon…

  • tom

i’d buy it on verizon DAY 1. i’ve waited several years now, but my patience is running out. if verizon doesn’t get it in spring 2010 i’m switching to ATT :(

  • Lue

I want an Iphone, but not enough to switch to AT&T. I would absolutely get an IPhone if they brought it to Verizon.

  • Melissa

I agree. If verizon doesn’t hurry up, and get it by spring next year. I may end up switching. Verizon does have the BEST service.

  • Brian

Agreed with most. The Wife and I will buy iPhones immediately. We are out of contract with Verizon currently, but like the signal quality as of now.

  • Clarissa

I will have an Iphone as soon as it is on THE network

  • Ellen

I totally agree with everyone else, I WANT an IPhone, but NOT the AT&T service, the sooner Verizon can pick up the IPhone the better!!! I need a new phone.

  • Eric

i have 2 friends that work at Verizon, the official date is December 31st, 2009!

  • KM

I will get the Iphone when it comes to verizon, funny my husband & I were just talking about this yesterday.

  • jaydee

i will camp out for a week at a verizon store if they release the iphone.

  • jaydee

this is the biggest BS i have ever heard. but wised it was true

  • J

If verizon does not get the iphone soon I am gonna break. Where I live AT&T does not work for at all. I am a huge mac fan have been extremely disappointed that I cannot use an iphone here. It really sucks that carriers can even get exclusive phones. Does not seem fair at all really!

  • Randi

I am anxiously awaiting for the release of the Verizon iphone, then I will buy one. Just hope you can order it online….

  • jason

My wife and I both HAD Iphones and we loved them. AT&T’s service just got to be too frustrating. Pay way too much money to not be able to do something as simple as receive/dial a call. The clincher yesterday was I went to the store because I was considering replacing my phone cause I thought maybe my iphone was bad, tried to place a call on one of the display phones and the call repeatedly failed. I went immediately and signed up with another carrier.

  • Mike

I am currently a Verizon customer (8+ years) and have comtemplated switching to AT&T just for the I-phone. I probably will end up switching to AT&T if Verizon doesn’t get the I-phone quickly.

  • Nicole

waiting VERY patienly for iPhone to come onto verizon…I keep searching the web for updates because I will only make the change to an iPhone when it comes to verizon…seriously…just open up the opportunity for Verizon customers…they have to know that sales will rise

  • Chris

i too am with a lot of people here. i am in need of a new phone, want to upgrade to an iPhone but don’t want to go to AT&T. my contract with Verizon is up in February 2010 and i’m considering switching to AT&T if the exclusive deal does not ends by next year. these exclusive deals have got to end, customers are in high demand for the device! i’m proud of myself for not getting the iPhone right when it first came out but after two years watching how much others enjoy/love it i’m ready to cave in. look at all the great products Apple has made last few years, they seriously cannot make a version of the iPhone that WILL WORK with Verizon’s network????

  • j

I was a VZW customer for 8+ years too and couldn’t stand the wait so I just jumped ship 2 weeks ago. No complaints so far. don’t regret one bit. If VZW, does get it. They’ll cripple/lockdown it in some way. And where the HELL do these people live that say “ATT isn’t very good where I live” – Do you live in the FLIP’N boonies? YESH….

  • j

VZW will cripple the iPhone like they do all their phones. Rumor is Summer 2010, but I wouldn’t hold your breathe. New wireless technology is due out 1-2 years from now called 4G/LTE. Why waste the money & time to make an iPhone WORK on a CDMA network that is potently to fade out, hmmmm interesting. I said, “screw it!” My wife and I jumped ship 2 weeks ago and honestly, she can’t stay off the darn thing, lol. We actually, think we get a little bit better service in boonie areas. Even with 1 bar or no bars, haven’t even dropped call or even when going over a state-line (like you do with VZW). Battery life is fair on moderate use. Just like any smartphone, I can get 2 2-1/2 In conclusion, if you want the iPhone just go get it!!!

  • Mike G

I have had ATT with the iphone and it just wasnt worth it on the crappy service. Once Verizon gets the iPhone, it will be better and faster…

  • Jeremy

Jordan, you must be smoking something wacky. I have tried many of the major cell carriers including Sprint, T-mobile, AT&T, and Verizon. I’ve used three of those carriers coast to coast. AT&T provided horrible service. The bill was always wrong! That being said, Sprint was even worse! Verizon had the best service while T-mobile had the best price. Have you used Verizon? If so where?

  • CLT

As a frustrated Verizon owner, I cannot wait for Verizon to get the iPhone IF, and only IF verizon will agree w/ Apple to NOT limit app access or functionality. How can so much demand (and need) for the best smartphone and decent coverage & customer service.at the same time be so impossible to find. PLEASE Apple, forgive Verizon for their past horrible judgement, & PLEASE verizon, quit trying to compete (inadequately) w/ Apple’s app’s and instead, form what could be a VERY mutually benificial relationship AND a meaningful customer service. Please Apple, do NOT let Verizon do ANYTHING to limit app functionality.
    With desperate hope….

12% rise in share value? Sounds very conservative. Most “Verizon Households” have multiple units that are hostage to the current limitation. My company offers employee discounts for both Verizon and AT&T. However, our blackberrys are supported by Verizon. Therefore, the family uses Verizon–the most reliable network and service. Talk about pent-up demand. The day Verizon closes this deal, we’ll make the switch–five phones.

  • Ralph

Hmmm. Wish I’d read your comments before raving on Verizon. Verizon does have a “bat to the technology knees” approach to protecting its silos. [I called once and asked why I had to subsribe to some ap just to see pictures on my blackberry. Their respons, "that's our business model"]. That’s something to think about. Plus, CDMA hurdles with CDMA/LTE around the corner. Great comments. I may follow your lead.

…me 2, if verizon does not get Iphone by 2010 I`ll switch 2 AT&T….sorry Verizon:(

  • Tardu

You should read up on it. When apple signup with verizon, they will have a new version of the iphone. which will be 4g lte… they will not leave att&t just add verizon. Read up.

  • sarah

verizon can’t make it happen any faster than its already happening. apple has an exclusivity contract with at&t and its not up till next june. its not as though verizon is holding out for some reason…you’re wasting your breath demanding that they get it any time before then. im sure verizon wants it just as much, if not more, than you do. you just have to sit tight guys.

  • Eric

I couldn’t wait any longer, so I switched to At&t. I hated the service and went back to Verizon. I loved the phone, but it wasn’t worth the horrible service At&t provided.

  • Travis

Bottom Line folks, Verizon NEEDS to get the iphone, not because verizon is hurting but because the iphone is just too sexy a phone to be on a horrible network like AT&T. I live in NYC and if you’re sevice sucks in the biggest city in the world you have problems. I have had them all, and yes sprint is even worst while T-Mobile is surprisely not bad for what you pay. Everyone of my friends that have the iphone has service problems. Whenever we hang out, I am always playing with their phones and all its cool apps, but the minute someone needs to make a call its my trusty verizon phone that we all use. And isnt that the the real purpose of a phone? to be able to make calls, send texts, and check emails? I, like many others have gotten rid of my landline so having a phone where people can reach me is vital not only for my personal life but for my professional life as well. Trust me getting an iphone on AT&T is like having Angelina Jolie as your girlfriend only to find out she has an STD…

I love the iPhone and the Verizon network, but I don’t like that Verizon will ultamitly(sp) change the iPhones configuration
