Kindle Eats Homework: Amazon pays for deleting student’s book notes

A US District Court judge has now allowed Amazon.com to settle a lawsuit regarding its Kindle device. Amazon is to pay lawyers $150,000 who is representing a US high school student, whose copy of George Orwell’s “1984 was deleted from his device.

Amazon has now said that they will not be yanking eBooks from their Kindle devices. Some of the money is to go to a charity, which specializes in the promotion of children’s issues, education, health and more. The lawsuit, which had a copy appear online did not state if any money would go to the plaintiffs.

The online retail giant deleted Orwell eBooks from over 2,000 kindles. Michigan high school student, Justin Gawronski and another user started the suit. They both had “copious notes” on “1984” as part of their homework. They were surprised when they learned that Amazon had remotely deleted the eBook.
