BlackBerry Storm 2: Best Buy reveal Verizon release and price

We have some very interesting news to give you now regarding the release of the BlackBerry Storm 2 on Verizon, after some new information has been obtained due to a Best Buy leak.

If you head over to BGR, you will see an image of a recent Best Buy Inventory listing. On it you’ll see that the retailer will be receiving BlackBerry Storm dummy units on the 25th October.

This is very relevant as you should know that a full release usually follows a week or so later. That would have us believe that customers ‘could’ start to see the BlackBerry Storm 2 come available early November.

BGR have also revealed that the expected price at Best Buy for the Storm 2 will come in at $599 with no service agreements.

I think those of us who bought the original flawed Storm should bet a discount for trading and old for the Storm 2.

      @havoc96 I have to agree.

I still feel like I was ‘duped’ into this device. The hype surrounding it when I had to upgrade my plan, made me feel comfortable in purchasing it. It’s not like I could do any real ‘research’ on the unit, seeing as how I bought it practically when it came out. I also expected a stream of updates to follow, which never happened. I did finally get one update a few months ago, which was definitely an improvement, but I still end up placing calls to people I didn’t want to call, just because the screen lag is SOOOOOO bad sometimes.

Of course, I really don’t expect the Storm 2 to be any better. At this point, I’m very disappointed in Verizon AND Blackberry for their collaboration in ‘fooling’ consumers… And that is exactly what I feel they did. And with the 2 year ‘contract’ commitment (how do you know you want to commit to 2 years when you don’t even know if their ‘equipment’ works???) it’s bordering on criminal.

I agree. I shouldn’t have to shell out an additional $500-$600 for a new phone when the old phone wasn’t up to par. The last update made a huge difference, but it is disappointing that Verizon is so slow to adopt the new OS’s for the Storm (1) (there are many out there that are not supported). I think a $100 upgrade coupon to the Storm 2 would make all the difference — It would be enough to convince me to upgrade…

        • Alex says:

I definitely agree… There should be an upgrade coupon for the storm 2. The storm lags so bad, it is far from perfect. It shouldn’t have even been released to the public. I don’t care if it’s RIM’s first touch screen phone, it’s been out for a year and it still sucks. There are several software and hardware flaws that shouldn’t even be allowed to pass as a final product. The OS updates don’t fix the lags. There is 1gb of device memory, which doesn’t allow for that many programs. The touch screen doesn’t click when pressing in the corners. Rim released a crappy beta device and should take responsibility in giving a discount to those who wasted their money on the laggy, buggy storm.

  2. Jarred says:

I think you might be missing the point. The phone was the first of its kind. Of course it wasn’t perfect but it was a step forward for RIM. They did put out two revisions to correct known issues with the phone whit a third on its way giving us OS 5. Sure you signed a two year contract but it doesn’t entitle you to a new car every year after signing a five year contract. You should be coming up on an annual upgrade to get the new Storm 2. At some cell company’s you can get trade in value for your old phone as well.

    • Chris says:

No, I think he’s right on. You take on the cost of beta testing in product development and prototyping of new products BEFORE releasing a device. The company, through media hype and misleading information, got a bunch of suckers to PAY for what they were lead to believe was a USABLE device, when in reality all they’ve been doing is BETA TESTING for the real model (due out only one year later?!). It sucks, its fraudulent, and it should cost them MILLIONS for the frustration we BBStorm users have suffered. My phone won’t answer or place calls on anything but HEADSET, even though it doesn’t have one connected and bluetooth is turned off. It’s a piece and both Verizon and Blackberry should pay!

    • Ray says:

I know many of the original Storm owners are upset about the new phone coming out relatively soon, but I have to agree with Jarred: those that purchased the phone last year were part of the Beta launch. The bugs needed to be worked out to create a more efficient product (which, by the looks of it, RIM did).

Most of the people who bought the phone last November are a marketer’s dream: the early adopters. Those people buy the ‘new’ stuff right away simply because it is “new,” regardless of the repercussions. Those of us that are planning on purchasing the Storm 2 early November are the second wave of consumers, who listened to the product reviews and ‘personal testimonies’ in order to form a more well-rounded opinion on our purchase decision.

If you want a refund or something, trade in your old phone to RIM’s trade-in program. I got about $80 for my old Moto ROKR (a year-and-a-half old at the time), so I have a feeling it’d offer something decent for the previous Storm.

I have the storm 1 right now. I got it when it first came out, witch was the best thing ever. but as i used it for work and that i noticed that it is very slow. This is my 2nd storm that i had, due to the screen going out on it. The storm is a cool phone but it just sucks anymore. Plus the updates take forever to happen. Idk about it anymore. I like verizon but im tempted to go to att and get the new iphone. my friend has it and he never complained about it and he still loves it. ALSO i do agree that anyone with a bb storm 1 should be the first to be able to get the bb storm 2 and she get at least a good chunk of change off. They should allow all storm 1 owners a week before the storm 2 comes out in storms to buy it.

    • Jim says:

The iPhone is what the 3rd generation now? The first one was crap, they dropped the price months after releasing it and caused a firestorm. Before we hail the iPhone remember what is happening with the Storm happens with every single product put out by Apple. The newest Nano they just released was like a year after the last rendition. This is normal folks. Doesn’t everyone say don’t buy a new body style of a car in its first year? Guess what, looks like it applies to electronics too.

anybody who uses a storm is a fag

  5. Bradley says:

I think a lot of people are just doing a lot of bitching on here. I myself have NEVER had a single problem out of my storm and am completely satisfied with it. I think most of the bad publicity on it is exaggerated. So you bought the Storm 1 and think you got screwed…no one pulled a gun on you. And of all things to blame it on Verizon and RIM saying they were misleading…that’s just another way of saying you were gullable. I, however, don’t believe anything about the promotion of the Storm 1 was misleading. It does EXACTLY everything they said it’d do. So the Storm 1 dosen’t have wi-fi…get a computer. Everyone these days wants their phones to do EVERYTHING but you have to understand that the more you put into a phone the more kinks it’s gonna have. I think people should know how to properly use this phone before they get it anyway. Anyone who bought the Storm 1 isn’t entitled to anything. Just wait for your upgrade. From what I’ve been told, at least you can get OS 5 until then.

I have the att bb bold now. I’m thinking of changing over to verizon
    for the storm
I played with the storm some and enjoyed it. Does anyone know what will
Be the differents of the storm 1 & 2. Is it worth the wait. For the money
I just rather get a refurb storm spend less get the same thing. The same
On a storm 2 if it is going to be that much better then ill wait for it.

  7. Eric says:

I didnt have a problem with my storm for the first few months. It was nice but then all of a sudden things started lagging and that damn timer started appearing everytime I pushed a button. My wife and I both bought it at the same time and both have the same problems. There is no reason at all that we should have a phone that cost $500 each when we bought it and it cant even make a call with out freezing and having to pull the battery and waiting 15 mins for it to restart. Verizon/RIM should some some compashion if they want to keep a lot of these unsatisfied customers. My wife and I might just go the iphone way if they just want us to fork out another $500 each
