Facebook takes action with Obama assassination poll

Facebook are never out of the media attention and yesterday was no different. The social networking website had to remove a poll, you may wonder why they would remove a poll, well if the U.S. Secret Service contacts you then you know something is wrong. The reason for this was a poll about assassinating President Barack Obama.

According to CBC News, the poll had asked people to vote on whether the U.S. president “should be killed.” Ed Donovan, a spokesman for the Secret Service said “We are aware of [the poll], we are taking the appropriate investigative steps.”

Facebook did not create the poll directly, but by a third-party application. Those who took part in the poll only had to answer, yes, no, maybe or “if he cuts my health care.” The poll received 750 votes before Facebook took it offline.

This was certainly not a poll that people wanted to see on Facebook, the website do not often get involved and take things down but when someone from the Secret Service contacts you, I guess you have to back down.
