Microsoft Security Essentials: Now Live

You may have read our post earlier today which suggested that Microsoft’s new Security Essentials free anti-malware protection will soon be available to download, that time has now arrived and the software can be downloaded here.

Microsoft Security Essentials is compatible with all versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, one version that it is not compatible with is Windows XP 64-bit, whether this will be rectified or not is yet to be seen.

The Windows XP compatible version of MSE is an 8.6MB download, the x86 version for Windows Vista and Windows 7 is a 4.3MB download and the x64 version for Windows Viast and Windows 7 is a 4.7MB download..

How the software compares against competing software such as Norton and McAfee is currently unknown, however given Microsoft’s other security software attempts I wouldn’t get my hopes up, check out HotHardware for more details.
