iPhone on Orange UK: Contract price and tariffs a secret

By: Alan Ng | September 29, 2009 | 10 Comments

As most of you will be aware by now, O2′s exclusive agreement with the Apple iPhone has come to an end, with the phone set to release on Orange before the end of the year.

However, Orange are remaining secretive about what contract prices and tariffs they will offer customers. As reported from Strategy Eye, Orange CEO Thomas Alexander revealed that ‘dates and pricing will remain secret for the time being’.

He also revealed that it took months of ‘hard work and determination’ to secure the iPhone on the Orange network. The week doesnt get any worse for O2 either, after reports are claiming that Orange and T-Mobile are in talks over a merge, which would see them overtake O2 as the UK’s largest mobile operator.

It just annoys me that its always a big secret for the release of the iphone , people cant actually get it until it is released , so why not just publish the release date ? So people can save up !

ABout bloomin’ time O2 got knocked off their pedestal, they’re charging ridiculous amounts for the monthly contracts for a iphone! £35 a month for 600 mins and 500msgs!!! Now there is other people selling the iphone the price should drop a bit as they have to compete! I might actually be able to get one now!

the iphone on orange contract and pay as you go, id due for release this mounth round about the 26th-31st. and all i no about prices is that they will be cheaper than o2 probably about 37.00 for 600mins and unlimited txts. hope this helped

Finally, I agree with Bianca, O2 having exclusive rights to the iphone has given them the power to charge whatever they want, their tarifs are crap, Im so glad Orange have got it now.

apple set the prices for tariffs

It’s highly unlikely that is the case. Price fixing in the UK is illegal. If two companies offer the same price tariff for the same spec for the iPhone meaning their is no competition it would be illegal. Apple can price fix their products across all apple shops as their outlets are classed as one company, Orange, Apple and 02 are not one company. (perhaps am wrong, but from my knowledge that’s what I presume)

I signed up with orange to get a heads up about the orange iphone i was really excited about it until i got an email about the prices which are just stupid and are definetly not better than the 02 iphone. I’m so disappointed and upon doing further research apparently the orange ipone has internet restrictions which mean you cant go on things like yahoo. Just gonna get the blackberry now or the iphone on 02.

I just went to the Orange site, was hoping to get enough money for the apparent price drops, but that is not going to happen, Orange’s prices are still too expensive, there was a rumored £70 drop but thats not true now, Never getting an iPhone, have to stick with my Samsung J600 :(

I have just been talking to Orange trying to get a better deal as an upgrade on the 3GS and have been told by the disconnections guy that they cant change anything as “the tariffs and handset prices are set by Apple!”

    HOW IS THIS LEGAL????!!!!
