Microsoft Courier vs. Apple Tablet: Does the brand matter?

Over recent months, we have heard nothing but the Apple Tablet, but now Microsoft have thrown a curveball and announced that they are also working on a Tablet PC, which we have learned is called the Microsoft Courier. Therefore, before you make your choice, will you be looking at the hardware differences or does the brand play a part in your decision.
The most recent news that we have on the Microsoft Courier, is that it will have a multitouch screen keyboard. This is because Microsoft has applied for a patent for the technology. The device is rumored to have two -7-inch screens, making it more like a booklet than a tablet.
Apple and Microsoft are always in a constant battle with each other, and the battle lines are now drawn against the Microsoft Courier and the Apple Tablet. The latest reports have the new iTablet being released in February 2010, but this has yet to be confirmed.
We are certain that both Apple and Microsoft will have all the latest hardware to make their tablets the best that they can be, but the end result will come down to the OS. The question is what operating system will be used?

Forget the hardware, “it’s the software stupid”…comes to mind.
Apple’s brand stands for software that works, and hardware that is top quality and longer lasting than all others.
Microsoft’s brand is dated, backward and in most people’s minds, doesn’t work well.
The days of the Microsoft stranglehold are very much over. Quality will out.
There is room for both. Apple’s product will probably focus more on entertainment (watching videos, listening to music, surfing the web, ebooks, etc) and will probably have better battery life, look and feel.
Microsoft’s is more for business use, but will also be able to do eveything the Apple Tablet can do. Probably will have shorter battery life, a smaller screen, but dual.
I think they will both sell. Apple will likely sell more units, but not if the price is too high. They just announced a new line of cheap net Macbooks last week. Will see what they do with the Apple Tablet and competitive pricing. If it too high they will lose a lot of customers, the courier is only one of many new 2010 tablet pcs that will run Windows 7 / Surface software.
As a true Apple enthusiast I have to side with apple on this. However i have to say i hope Microsoft comes out with something innovation, their patent shows that they are finally trying.
We can already see Apple has an operating system (two in fact) that would be fully capable of running a tablet in a way we’d like it to (iphone OS, as well as snow leopard). We have yet to see how well windows 7/surface software.
What’s funny about this competition between the two companies is that for once, Microsoft is the one with the innovative game changing device while Apple’s offering is so blah. Apple’s device is, essentially, a giant iPod Touch. Microsoft is actually designing a comprehensive software package to make this tablet experience unlike anything anyone has ever used before. Whether or not it is worth the money or will sell is a whole different discussion, but the truth is, Microsoft really hit the ball out of the park on this one whereas Apple seemed content to just create another iTunes/App Store tie in.
