General Motors and Assembly Plants: Restores 3,000 Jobs

Things are starting to look up for the troubled auto sector in the U.S., as on Tuesday General Motors announced that it was to restore 3,000 jobs at its assembly plants. GM is also set to increase production by up to 45 percent in North America in 2010 We wonder if this has anything to do with GMs recent aggressive marketing campaign, which was hoped to convince Americans that their products are as good as its rivals.

The Economic Times reports that GM will add three shifts to its three assembly plants; they will be taking workers from plants that are set to close who are in the middle of being retooled. This process will not have an immediate effect in production this year, but we should start to see an increase in production to 2.8 million vehicles next year.

The reports says that GM will restore 2,400 jobs at US assembly plants and another 600 jobs at a number of related facilities on home soil, such as those who produce engines and transmissions. These new shifts will take place at three plants in Kansas, Indiana and Michigan.
