Ross’s Perot Systems: Dell buy for $3.9 billion
By: Peter Chubb | September 23, 2009 | Leave a CommentDell is looking for a number of ways to get its top position back in the home PC market, and purchasing Ross’s Perot Systems for $3.9 billion is seen as a step in the right direction. Dell was on top but was overtaken by Hewlett-Packard Co.
Dell’ buyout seems like a small one compared to HP’s buyout of EDS last year, which deal was worth $14 billion. As with all deals like this there are always casualties, and 25,000 jobs had to be cut. There are now worries that this new deal will also see job cuts at a time when finding new work is very difficult.
According to Dallas News, an analyst has said that the Dell-Perot deal is more about growth and not about cost cutting, we will just have to wait and see if it turns out that way. However, officials from both companies have also stated that the deal is about growth.
