Ford Figo 2009: Small car for India

Ford Motor Co. understand two things, smaller cars are now the future, and they have to push down production cost. Ford thinks that they might have the answer to both, and that is with the launch of its Figo 2009- its first small car to be produced in India.

Ford hope to make India a global production hub for small cars, as costs are much cheaper than on home soil. The Wall Street Journal tells us that the Ford Figo 2009 will be a four-door hatchback and is to be produced at the companies Ford India’s factory. The new model will be produced in India and then exported to other markets around the globe.

The Figo will have a range of engines, from 0.8 liters to 1.6 liters. Ford forecast annual sales in the region of 3.0 million units by 2016, as global markets all move from larger cars to smaller, fuel-efficient models. Ford is late to the party when it comes to producing cars in India, but it should not take them long to catch-up, if things are done right.
