ATI Radeon HD 5800: DirectX 11 support

AMD have recently introduced two new graphics cards, these cards are both part of the Radeon HD 5000 series, both of the cards are DirectX 11 capable, making them the first released DirectX 11 capable products, thus beating their rivals Nvidia.

The two new cards are the ATI Radeon HD 5870 and ATI Radeon HD 5850, the 5870 features 1GB of DDR5 memory, a memory clock speed of 1.2GHz, 4.8 Gbps and a core clock speed of 850MHz and is capable of 2.72 Teraflops, the 5850 also features 1GB of DDR5 memory, however it has a lower memory clock speed of 1GHz, 4.0Gpbs its core clock speed is also lower at 725MHz and is capable of 1.2 Teraflops.

The Radeon HD 5000 series graphics cards are thought to be becoming available over the next coming months, it is thought that one large OEM has claimed pretty much all of the first batch of 5800‘s.

Prices are not yet 100 percent confirmed, however from what we can see the ATI Radeon HD 5870 will retail for approximately $399, whereas the and ATI Radeon HD 5850 should retail for around $250, as we find out more we will keep you posted, you can see more details on Cnet’s article here.
