Verizon’s network, the iPhone, and lack of good smartphones

According to who you talk to, Verizon is the best carrier in the U.S. and according to zikkir.com; they have the worst smartphones on the market. It is no secret that Verizon and its customers would love for the iPhone to come to them; however, that still seems a long way off.

Verizon are always getting praise for their great coverage, but zikkir.com wonders why they always seem to lose out to other carriers, such as AT&T and T-Mobile for the latest Smartphones. Even Sprint has now started to offer better handsets than Verizon.

There are a few examples of this, most recently, T-Mobile announced the launch of the new Motorola Cliq, this is the latest Android phone. Having the Cliq in their lineup is a coup for T-Mobile, but even T-Mobile has a way to go to catch up to AT&T.

AT&T seems to be the top dog when it comes to attracting big handsets, but as they often have patchy coverage, we wonder why this is.

It’s simple. AT&T is GSM and the 3g bands they support are used in other countries. Sorry T-mo. So AT&T has acces to way more handsets based on their global standard. I have Had Verizon for 9 years. Can’t wait for the Pre and Android devices!

I am very happy with Verizon because I am not interested in smartphones but rather good coverage and cheap minutes. I have a Straight Talk phone with unlimited talk, text and 30mb of data which runs on Verizon’s network, it’s cheap at $45/month and Verizon’s coverage is the best.

Thankfully, Verizon is starting to put in GSM, currently they have a couple of phones, so buy the iphone, jailbreak/unlock, get a sim…all is good
