There has been a recent study by In-Stat that the new USB 3.0 technology will have a broad release by 2012. Not all PCs and peripherals will have the latest USB ports, but around 70 percent of external hard drives, desktops and notebooks will.
Techspot has been looking more into that article and have picked up on the estimates that global shipping of USB 3.0 flash drives will reach almost 200 million units by 2013. It is also thought that cell phones will have the highest volume segment.
In-Stat foresees that by 2013, USB 3.0 will account for more than 25 percent of the USB market. USB is the most successful interface ever, just look at these figures, three billion devices with a USB interface shipped in 2008 alone. That figure is set to get even bigger, as more devices come with USB ports now, the newest being TVs.
