Since the original iPhone was launched back in 2007, most of us all agree that the Smartphone has had its lion’s share of problems. However, as Apple launch new software updates, the phone has become much better for it. The recent iPhone 3.1 OS has certainly helped to improve things, but the phone is still hampered with a number of problems.
We have covered a number of stories where iPhone users are not happy with the current iPhone 3.1 OS, as they are still experiencing a number of issues. GLG News explains that millions of iPhone users have now become frustrated with their handset, and this is a big problem for Apple.
The writer of the GLG News article mentions about how he often puts his phone to sleep and from time to time, it will not come out of its sleep. The phone will come on, but only when it feels like it. We are not certain if this is an isolated incident or if this has become a common occurrence since the update.
Apple will have to respond quickly to this and a number of other problems with iPhone OS 3.0, and the only way for this is with a quick turnaround on 3.2 OS.

I too am having same issues since 3.1 update. My phone sometimes can’t dial out but screen is normal. Other times it won’t get calls or text messages. I spoke to Apple on this and they claim that they haven’t heard of any issues. I informed them as I now am informing others, that if I need my iPhone for an emergency either to call or get a call and it fails, I will be filing a law suit.
Nate - sorry to see that you’re part of the growing problem with America becoming a sue-crazy society. The short of it is that you likely won’t recover, as the fine print associated with your AT&T contract states, in layman’s terms, that wireless phones do not work in all circumstances, including the ability to make emergency calls. While the disclosure speaks more to the network than the device, I would expect a court to consider this an adequate disclosure that you can’t always rely on your phone to work.
Yes, this is definitely result of the 3.1 software. I and eveyone I know that has the new software has this very same problem. I love my iPhone, but this issue is very frustrating so I am impatiently awaiting a 3.2 fix for this problem.
I too have the “sleep” or “crashing” issue. My iPhone seems to goto sleep or turns off whenever it wants, without and rhyme or reason. The only way to get it to come back is if I hold down “home” and “power” for 10 seconds to force a reset. This only started to happen after I updated to 3.1! I could understand these issues within an OS like windows where hardware is different from system to system, but, every iPhone revision should be identical. There are no excuses for issues like this, and it is unacceptable.
After upgraded to 3.1 , the phone encounter random /intermittent problms
1) shutdown and need forced power on
2) can’t call out . need to power off and on again
3) SMS can’t send out .need to power off and on it again
Happen 2-3 times a day …
If i have the choice , i would liketo downgrade back to 3.01
