A few thousands Intel (INTC) developers and customers will be making their way to San Francisco this week for the Intel Developers Forum (IDF). There are reports that the weather will be very hot, but that will not stop them making the pilgrimage to this big show of 2009.
Internet News reports that IDF 2009 is the first year without Pat Gelsinger; he is the former CTO who was credited with starting the event back in 1997. Over the years, he was one of the most prominent speakers at the event and was a crowd favorite.
Gelsinger decided to part company with Intel last week and take the job as President and Chief Operating Officer of EMC. Sean Maloney will now take his place on stage, so a lot of weight will be on his shoulders. Let us hope that Maloney is up to the job.
There are rumors that Larrabee, Intel’s GPU project could make an appearance at the event, we can only hope that this is true.
