Gran Turismo 5 vs. Forza 3: 4 key factors

Gran Turismo 5 vs. Forza 3: 4 key factors

By: Peter Chubb | September 21, 2009 | 16 Comments

The Xbox 360 and the Sony PS3 have been in a constant battle when it comes to having the best racing simulators. 360 fans will say Forza, while PlayStation 3 fans will say Gran Turismo. Both PS3 and Xbox 360 fans are all waiting for the release of Gran Turismo 5 vs. Forza 3.

AAG has been taking a closer look at each game, mainly 4 of the key factors what makes a racing simulator so good. If you are lucky enough to own both consoles, then you will not have to make that choice between the two. The 4 key factors that AAG speak about are Cars, Customization, Courses and Community.

It will take far too long to try to go over all of these points, however if you head over to AAG, then you can read their article. They have concluded though that Gran Turismo 5 may have more cars than Forza 3, but that does not make up for the huge amount of tracks that Forza 3 has.

We will you let come to your own conclusion as to what racing simulator gets your vote.

Maybe things have changed, but this article seems to be rather unbiased compared to what I usually find here. Bravo!

It’s quite difficult to make valid comparisons when noone even knows the full scale of GT5 yet. The writer did however note at the bottom it was from expected features. However, they haven’t officially announced any feature set for GT5 yet, so kind of jumping the gun imo.

    I disagree on 2 parts:

Firstly, as has always been the case, the customizations features in GT5 are appropriate for the level of racing it entails. I personally have no need of useless vinyls and other such stickers. Interior effects are also worthless as they provide no performance increase…in fact, any additional weight due to interior changes would actually decrease the vehicles racing performance.

Secondly, the Gran Turismo community is vastly…vastly larger than the Forza community. There’s absolutely no way you can claim otherwise.

Other than that, decent article…for something that’s comparing two games not yet released, one of which we know virtually nothing about.

I have to say I couldn’t care less about the Forza customising stuff. What I prefer is the realistic modifications you can make with Gran Turismo.

I also find it bizarre that the article says Forza 3 cars look better than any racing game when they don’t even look as good as the cars in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

The article is either very biased or very dumb. Given that its comparing 2 games which they haven’t even played I vote for the latter lol

BTW I would rather have 1 perfect rendition of the Nurburgring than 20 of the usual boring Forza tracks.

@Mornelithe “the Gran Turismo community is vastly…vastly larger than the Forza community. There’s absolutely no way you can claim otherwise”.
turd .. check your facts before making bs statements

  • haha

    Gran Turismo 5 – 1080p native
    Forza 3 – 720p native

    nuff said.

no Porsche, less than 1/5 cars have damage, limited customization compared to forza, no history for having DLC, wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more smaller community. i don’t see how people prefer GT5 when all it has over forza is better shading and more cars.

“turd .. check your facts before making bs statements”

I find it rather amusing since you failed to check the facts before calling someone out. Let’s look at sales.

    Forza 2 = 4m
    GT4 = 10.3m
    GT5 Prologue = 3.9m

As you can clearly see, GT’s fanbase is indeed “vastly” larger than Forza’s. You need to put down the crack pipe and come back down to earth eh.

I believe when they refer to community they refer to internet community in which case to date only GT5 Prologue has a internet community to mention as far as GT games go where as I believe Forza has been online since its inception, but using your own data coupled with this knowledge you will find that Gran Turismo comes up quite short.

So GT has a bigger fan base on the PS2 but not on the PS3. How does that make it relvant to Forza 3 Vs GT5 comparison ?

Some of us prefer not to be confused by the facts.

the article compares two 'racing simulators'.
my xbox playing friends who are pure fanboys of their console even admited that it's far from the definition of a 'simulator' with physics more suited to a 6 yr old. don't mind if they have more tracks if it plays like mariokart physics.

i think the fact that there are more here playing the Forza is the way they can customized the car and the sound of the car i think its much more realistic than the GT.. and for the GT the main factors is the details of the car and the tracks.. i wish we can combine these two great game to fill up the needs of everyone… LOL just my opinion.. because i love those games i have xbox360 jasper edition and ps3..

lets think about this for awhile… 1997 was the release for GT1 not alot of people used the internet every freaking day back then. compared to Forza in 2005.

GT is the better of the 2 because it doesn’t take an internet community to make sales.

    GT: 55,000,000+ sales

    Forza: 10,000,000+ sales

really? seriously? fan boi’s plz. no comparison.

hi everyone, just my two cents worth, I will start by saying I have only really owned a sony console and loved the gran turismo series. My flat mate has a 360 with forza 2 & 3 which I helped him finish, he also use to own a ps2 and also loved the old GT series. We had plenty of fun with forza, some great features,Personally painting cars, seeing collision damages and an easier to navigate menu, FM3 was a good game, but we found we didn't miss at all, once we got stuck into GT5 came out recently, we both agree hands down GT5 is much more realistic in many ways. . Its so much a better game, more realistic and much more unforgiving. Forza was more like an arcade racer.

haha i know imagine gt5's graphics and physics and forza's customization's and damage feature it would be a amazing game!
