ARM dual-core Cortex-A9 designs: iPhone 4G on the way?
By: Alan Ng | September 17, 2009 | Leave a CommentChip design specialists ARM have just announced that they are currently developing Dual-Core Cortex-A9 Processor Designs, based on their Cortex-A9 platform.
As reported from MacRumors, this is highly significant as this new Cortex-A9 chip could be used for the next generation iPhone (or iPhone 4G), considering the fact that the iPhone 3GS makes use of a Cortex-A8 chip.
The Cortex-A9 will deliver performance in excess of 2 GHz, along with less than 0.25 W of power per CPU. MacRumors have stated that the chip will be available before the end of the year, which will then let manufacturers get to work on new devices such as Television sets, Printers and Set-Top boxes.
Let us know your thoughts on this one. Could we see the next iPhone being powered by a dual-core chip? It’s an exciting prospect for sure. Full article over at MacRumors.
