PC Game Growth: Sony and Microsoft

A recent article on HipHopGamerShow looks into how the advances that consoles manufacturers such as Microsoft and Sony are making, and how the advances with their games consoles are contributing towards the decline of the PC Gaming Market.
I worked as a computer technician (in a relativity small computer repair shop) for five years, and I feel the real advantage of console gaming over PC gaming is the fact that you buy a game for the PS3/Xbox 360 and it works to its full potential, however with high end PC gaming there are so many factors which can effect gameplay such as graphics card versions, pixel shaders, drivers, patches etc.
I kind of agree with the article, however to be honest if people prefer hassle free gaming on their games consoles its up to them, there is also a video on HipHopGamerShow you can see it here (I could have embedded it but I found it annoying).
Do you think Sony and Microsoft are responsible for the decline in PC gaming.

Actually Jaime, you’d be incorrect in that assumption. Take Street Fighter IV, as a simple example. Try benchmarking that on a PC…:
65FPS @ 1920×1200 C16xFSAA
Whereas, on the consoles, it feels like slow-mo. Sure, I own SF on console, simply because I prefer fighters and racers ont he console…but everything else…everything, performs better on PC, due to hardware scaling. What you miss, or, rather, don’t know is that the console simply slows down action in order to maintain it’s look…take Dynasty Warriors or Warriors Orochi as an example. Things get to hectic? Drop the Framerate to near nothingness. That’s the console solution to high-end demand.
Whereas, my PC really never has such hiccups. I own a PS3 for Sony exclusives, and my PC for everything else. Works quite well, actually. Interestingly, you say the ‘decline’ of PC gaming. Wrong, PC gaming still makes up the lions share of gaming profits. Look it up.
I think you misunderstand my point, I agree that high end PC games completely out perform the console equivalents however, not everyone has a $2000+ PC, therefore trying to run a game on different specification PC’s often results in mixed performance, however a game that runs on PS3 runs at the PS3’s full potential no matter what.
I myself know that if I go and buy a console game today it will work without issue, however I do not know how well my PC will run the game, that in my opinion is why a console is a safer alternative.
If 100 people go and buy a PC game today, not everyone will be able to play it, however if 100 people buy a game for their console, it will work without issue…. Look it up.
We both know that’s incorrect however, Jamie. Take ports from the 360 to the PS3, or vice versa. We know those suck performance wise. Whereas, nine-times out of ten, the PC port will never have these problems. Ever.
Yes, a $2000 dollar gaming rig isn’t attainable by everyone in the mainstream…however, to say it requires a $2000 gaming rig to outperform the 360/PS3…is well, thinking like we’re in 2006. We’re in 2009 and you could build a PC that equals or exceeds the performance of both system hand over fist for less than $1000. Easily. My PC, simply goes one step further, and could outperform the PS3 and 360 combined.
As for consumer purchasing decisions, that’s the consumers fault. If they can’t properly pick out a PC designed to their needs…or build one themselves (which takes a very small amount of knowledge, no less)…that’s a problem with people at large. They’re complacent in their ignorance. They don’t care about what they don’t know, and simply assume because someone said it, it’s true. Whereas, really, any PC you pick up today, that runs Vista-32/64, will easily outperform a console. Easily.
What it comes down to is choice, do you prefer games on console, or on PC? Do you prefer all your games on console, or mostly on PC. That’s the important factor.
As for games working right…hmm, you mean like Assassin’s Creed? Or, Lost Planet? Or, any number of other games that were released with glitches and such? Funny thing is, when that happens to consoles, the console crashes. Of course, with something like STALKER: Shadows of Chernobyl/Clear Skies, sure it’s full of glitches, but my PC powers through it anyway. Look it up. I don’t need to, because I’ve got them both sitting right next to me. As well as Crysis, Crysis Warhead, GTAIV (much better on PC), and a slew of other games that would make the consoles melt down to a pile of slag.
Interestingly…no rebuttal on the benchmarking eh? Mayhaps…because there is none, and you realize that you didn’t really write what you meant…right?
What your not mentioning is that:
PC game ports are often delayed, like SFIV, Lost Planet, Resident Evil 5, etc.
Even though they are delayed they can still have bugs since the developers don’t care as much about the pc version. GTAIV pc is a good example of this. Fallout 3 pc also had a lot more bugs than the console version.
Finally there are a lot of games that don’t go to pc in the first place. Some of the biggest console games this gen are staying exclusive to boost sales.
PC gaming ain’t what it used to be. It’s all about rts and mmorpgs now. But if you don’t mind playing delayed console ports then by all means stick with it.
please hip hop gamer is the worse person for making up lies. In fact he is a console fanboy namely a ps3 fanboy.
the ps3 can be pirated.
hackers hack everything, If tv\’s are now going to go online you can bet money that vioous will found on your tv\’s and consoles.
you can pirated blue ray movies you can pirate ps3 games.
console gaming is not cheaper than pc gaming. Your paying for over pirced games and over priced hardware in fact you will be paying $100 for game soon.
sorry console gaming does not have as much games as pc.
sorry console gaming can not handle the best genres.
sorry the world does not play on consoles
In fact console game devs are going bankupt because of high production costs.
hip hop gamer is misleading and a console fanboy.
he is right about micfrosoft and gamestop trying to kill pc gaming
The PS3 can be pirated in theory but in reality it hasn’t been. PC games however are pirated en masse, especially single player. Even Blizzard recently mentioned how you have to have a strong multiplayer component if you want to avoid pc piracy:
As for costs console gaming will always be cheaper since you can rent the games. PC games also have zero resale value if you buy them off steam or d2d.
PC gaming has its place but it also has its own disadvantages.
i think that the problems you get with pc/games is worth it and half the fun overclocking video cards playing around/maxing out settings downloading aftermarket patches playing on unmetered severs (isps own free)not paying 79 dollars a year to do so or 400-1800 microsoft points for map pacs
i just got xbox 360 and enjoy the speed of getting the game on (grab controler press button change tv chanell press start play but i miss fine tuning and presition of my g9 mouse for the sniper rifle
consoles are nice toys good if you just like to play a game my choice is to have both and i do like how microsoft incoperated xbox with pc
your smoking crack and live in a box, if you think a ps3 can’t be pirate in fact there is ps3 games out there you can play know. yOu know nothing about gaming, gamers, hackers.
