Recently at Apple’s “It’s Only Rock and Roll” event many people were disappointed at the lack of camera for the new device, however one thing that Apple did mention is that the 3rd generation iPod Touch will feature a faster processor, this processor is said to offer “up to 50 percent faster performance”.
Macworld have recently ran tests on the third generation iPod Touch and compared them to the second generations iPod Touch, both devices were running iPhone OS 3.1.
The results are as followed, to boot to the home screen the Touch 2G took 31 seconds, whereas the new Touch took 19 seconds, to launch Peggle the Touch 2G took 12 seconds, whereas the new Touch took 7 seconds.
To launch HR Battle the Touch 2G took 20 seconds whereas the the new Touch took 15 seconds, to launch Rolando 2 the Touch 2G took 10 seconds, whereas the new Touch took 5 seconds, to run the Sunspider JavaScript benchmark the Touch 2G took 34.2 seconds whereas the new Touch took 15.6 seconds.
I feel that the most impressive result came when they tested the time the Touch’s took to load “The New York Times” web site, on the Touch 2G it took 34 seconds, wheras the new Touch only took 15 seconds. These tests prove that the performance of the new Touch excels in all areas, the fact that a particular website loads 19 seconds quicker on the new Touch should make web browsing on the whole much much better.
