Intel wants court to dismiss antitrust case
By: Peter Chubb | September 16, 2009 | Leave a CommentLast May, Intel Corp. was hit with an antitrust ruling against them; the chipmaker has since asked Europe’s second highest court to annul that decision. Intel has accused the regulators of not only erring in law but also providing a sloppy analysis.
Computer World reports that the details have been made public today. The European Commission fined Intel $1.45 billion in May, stating that the chip giant had abused its dominant position in the microprocessor chip market. They added that this was done at the expense of its rivals.
The European Commission had told Intel that they had to stop handing out rebates to both PC manufacturers and retailers, where it was found that Intel had asked them for almost total exclusivity. Intel was also ordered to stop paying PC makers to slow down the launch of computers and laptops powered by AMD chips.
