Gran Turismo Sony PSP Review – ‘Greatly Disappointing’

By: Alan Ng | September 16, 2009 | 4 Comments

The reviews for the PSP version of Gran Turismo are starting to come in now and we have have one of the first for you to look at. It comes from IGN, who have given the game a surprisingly poor review.

We say surprising, as PSP GT has been in the works for years now it seems. A lot (and we mean a lot) of hype has been building up throughout the year, and after you have read this review, you may not be as excited as you first were.

IGN have praised the game for featuring over 800 different models in the game and having steady and smooth gameplay that runs at 60fps. However, they say the lack of a career mode ‘of any sort’, is a big letdown and that the game suffers from presentation issues.

They have given the game a final score a 6.8, calling it ‘passable’. Read their full review in the link above, then let us know your thoughts on it.

Check out metacritic and the review scores vary from 96 to 67. From what I’ve read the lower scores seem to be that the reviewer wanted gt5 on a psp rather than a game created for drop in drop out gameplay and short bursts of play that a handheld needs.

I wonder if reviwers spend much time in the real world sometime. They get a portable game and play it all the way through almost non-stop where the actual user with rarely ever do that being that; its portable and you never get that length of time. If youre at home you use your home console/pc for games.

As for IGN themselves I tend to disagree with almost every review of theirs I’ve ever read but I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve actually played it.

I agree Jimmy, seems like a very harsh review in my opinion

Again agree with Jimmy, a baised review if ever heard one.

I disagree. Many people don’t have a console and in fact do play their portables for great lengths of time. I do have a copy of GT on the PSP and it has fantastic game physics and the challenges will take ages to complete.

Why they didn’t put in a GT mode or at least some championships is beyond me. Many of their competitors have similar games and are virtually identical to their console versions eg. Race Driver series. The fact that many users have waited for years to see this title has left them with a bad taste in their mouth after the final game they’ve offered.
