Fan Check Application Virus: Facebook users, are you panicking?

Many of you may be aware of the latest security threat associated with Facebook, the security risk is associated with a new Facebook application called Fan Check, however the developer of the application denies that the application contains malware nor does it violate any of Facebook policies.

The developer of Fan Check is called Janakan Arulkumarasan and is from Hong Kong, Janakan says that it is not at all malicious, however malicious developers have built up a lie which suggests that it is malicious and in-turn need to download anti-virus software, this is where the real exploitation take place, you can see full details here.

Facebook their-selves are said to have re-looked at Fan Check, and they can confirm that Fan Check does not contain any malware, however Facebook did ask the developer to “ reformulate the app’s description”.

Security experts at Sophos have also looked into Fan Check, they also agree that Fan Check itself does not contain any malicious software, however that said they did agree with Janakan Arulkumarasan that people are exploiting the confusion regarding the situation.

My advice is to just avoid using the Fan Check application, that way you do not run the risk of becoming infected, check out ClickLiverpool for more details.

How interesting that hackers picked a random Facebook app and made a red herring out of it…I don’t know much about it, but what, exactly, does Fan Check do, and why were so many people so quick to believe that it contained malware? Also, you never mentioned exactly how the word spread that the app was infected…was it through Facebook spamming, word of mouth..other? Any follow-ups you could provide would be much appreciated.
