802.11n Wi-Fi standard gets approval from IEEE
By: Jamie Pert | September 14, 2009 | Leave a CommentAlthough there has been no official announcement from the IEEE it is now thought that they have finally approved the 802.11n wireless LAN standard, the news comes as Bruce Kraemer(chairman of the 802.11n Task Group) has recently sent out notifications to “ Wi-Fi chip makers, software developers, and equipment vendors”.
Until we hear an official statement from the IEEE we will not know exactly what the standards set will be, all we do know is that we should expect data rates which will be a minimum of around 100Mbps, however more consistently the standard should deliver around 150Mbps.
One concern for many will be that 802.11n hardware which has already been purchased may not be compatible with the approved standard, if you are unsure I would check with the manufacturer. For full details check out ComputerWorld’s fully detailed article here.
