Recently at Apples “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it” event Apple announced the immediate release of iPhone OS 3.1, so far we have seen a few reviews regarding the new OS release which all seem pretty positive, however now an article on SFGate is reporting that their may be an issue.
According to the article it seems that some iPhone users are experiencing problems when attempting to sync their iPhone’s with Exchange servers, before iPhone OS 3.1 the email accounts synced fine, however now you receive this message “The account requires encryption which is not supported on this iPhone.”
It is thought that this issue isn’t affecting all Exchange users, only those using a particular form of encryption, as we find out more details we will keep you posted.

I am one of the usere that upgraded the iphone for my 3G to the 3.1 version and found that my corporate email did not work.
The reason that I “upgraded” from my old razer phone was to be able to access my corporate email and calendar. Now I can’t.
I was told at the store that the only difference between the 3G and 3GS was the video capability of the 3GS. Now I find this to be untrue.
Unless Apple fixed this problem, I promise that I will never purchase another Apple product and will continue letting people know how you treat your customers.
I’m an IT admin and we’ve been using iPhones and Exchange for quite a while.
Today, after I upgraded my personal 3GS iPhone to software version 3.1 I could no longer reply to emails through Exchange (although, I could still receive). Also, the same thing was happening on my Gmail account which was also configured on this phone.
Unfortunately, I was unable to get the word out to our employees NOT to upgrade to 3.1 (especially those that do NOT have a 3GS phone) and now I have a lot of unhappy iPhone users and I have wasted a whole day tracking down the problem and figuring out a fix and/or workaround.
Fortunately, if you have a 3GS iPhone, you can just delete the email accounts from the iPhone and re-add them.
Unfortunately, this does NOT work if you do NOT have a 3GS iPhone. I’ve had to setup a new POP server and forward copies of emails sent to Exchange.
I expect this kind of grief from Microsoft…
Apple, you’ve really done a bonehead thing with this release…
Ye gods!
such a wonderful phone
I have users that have also been affected by this. We run Exch2003. Users that upgraded cannot download the WAV files that get sent to them by our voicemail system. All other attachments download fine.
I also have some users that experience rapid battery loss and I have attributed this to their phones constantly trying to access the email.
Anyone running Exch2007 and having this problem?
Very frustrating.
