According to a recent article on SCMagazine it seems that the improved security that iPhone OS 3.1 offers for web browsing is ineffective, that said it is an improvement when compared to iPhone OS 3.0.
The person who is questioning the OS’s security is Michael Sutton who is the Vice President of security research at Zscaler. He agrees that the addition of a fraud warning option (on by default) is a welcome change, however all this does is warn you when visiting fraudulent websites.
With up-to-date browsers such as Safari they tend to follow Google’s SafeBrowsing initiative, this basically means that both malicious URLs and phishing sites are blocked, however with mobile Safari only phising sites are blocked.
To find out more on Michael Sutton’s concerns check out the dully detailed article on SCMagazine.
