It is currently believed that Windows Mobile 6.5 is aiming for an early October release, and when it is released there will be some new handsets boasting the new OS, however it also seems that some older Windows Mobile handsets may also run the OS.
One active member on xda-developers is currently claiming that he has an official Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM for the Xperia X1, this is said to use some OEM drivers and also some drivers from the X2. This is the first we have heard about an official ROM for Windows Mobile 6.5 for this handset.
Obviously it could be that this ROM turns out to be a disappointment so for the time being I will hold judgment, however it would be interesting to see Windows Mobile 6.5 run on the original Xperia X1. For more details check out IntoMobile.

Jamie,
Winmo 6.5 has been running on the original Xperia for about six months now through the magic of custom ROMs from XDA and other known developer websites. You Tube also has numerous videos of Xperia running 6.5. While I agree it would be nice to have an official MS/SE blessed 6.5 upgrade, “seeing” it run on the device is old news.
