PS3 XMB, firmware 3.0 update and improvements needed

We have more feedback to give you now, following the ‘not-so-great’ recent 3.0 firmware update to the Playstation 3, which went live over a week ago now.
So far, we have told you that a lot of you are far from impressed with the new update. From the pretty poor ‘What’s-New’ menu to the ridiculous new friends list interface, we feel like Sony have not made too much of an effort with 3.0.
Even worse though, a lot of our readers have been reporting on game freezes, following the update. You can read up on that, in our article here.
Over at the PS Boards, similar talk has been ongoing for some time there, with some users even going to the extreme to show how some of the features should of looked.
We won’t be surprised if Sony have to roll out a quick update, to solve the problems that many of you have been experiencing.
Do you think we are being a little harsh on Sony here, or is the firmware 3.0 update really that bad?

this stupid update caused my PS3 to stop reading discs all together. I would love for sony to fix this asap so i can actually use my ps3 again
Same here - 3.0 update has left me unable to play ANY DVDs, blue rays or games. And what’s Sony’s answer? That my machine must have “coincidentally broken” during the upload process. Me and hundreds of other people obviously!!!!
There is also, they say, the possibility of an underlying problem on my machine which has manifested itself following the new update, but they can’t tell me what this might possibly be, and their only suggestion is for me to pay them £99 for a “repair”.
I’m not doing it - and I’ve contacted Watchdog, as I understand they are taking up the cause next week. I strongly suggest that anyone with a similar problem does the same as they won’t be able to ignore us if we group together!!
i for 1 am not happy i had my blueray lense replaced about a month ago and now the 3.00 update has messed my ps3 up games freezing constantly and i mean all my games i can get about 5 or 10mins out of a game if im lucky before it freezes and its not just some lil glitch its a proper freeze nothing works have to restart my ps3 and start again so sony plese bring out a new update i really want to play my games and im also thinking of buying the new slim ps3 im definatly not going to buy it while 3.00 is still running so fix it and ull get some more money lol
i dont like the new XMB. the font is different. the fading of the colour towards nite time has changed too. I liked the fact that it was bright and colourful during the day and faded to black and grey in the pm hours. now it stays colour until about 10pm. i would like this to go, or at least an option to set how much it fades and when.
change the background to ‘classic’ in Theme Settings.
I honestly have no problem with the update. all my games doesn’t freeze at all and i play hours at a time, so im satisfied but dont mind any changes
My ps3 has too stopped reading all discs. Are they trying to make us pay for the new ps3 slim, or make us pay for a new lense for £99? Sony must take us for fools.
Same here guys. I bought the new Guitar Hero 5 with a new guitar and everything. I started my ps3 and it asked me to update, I said no because I really wanted to play the game, so I did. The game ran fine for about 2 hours until I had to go out. The next day I descided to just do the dumb update and on the first song the game glitched with the graphics still running but the sound on a 2 second loop. I pushed start to see if it would fix it and it froze completely. The only thing left to do was to hold the power button until it shut off. When I started it back up again, it would not read any discs anymore. I contacted Sony and of course the robot like jackass that calls himself customer service representative read some crap about how it is out of warranty and I have to pay $149 or something to have it fixed. I told him no thanks, I will wait for a new update and if it isnt fixed I will set it on fire and spend an extra $100 on top of how much it would cost me to repair the PS3 and buy an XBOX. Way to lose your customers Sony!

Good day to all. First and foremost, the 3.0 firmware update has me so annoyed I didn’t listen to myself and left the damn 2.8 alone, gosh. Where is the game boot screen? The new, intesting black screen now has me wondering if the console is frigging up. Or if I inserted a movie. Second, what’s up with the auto load feature? If I leave a disc in and resume later, instead of the disc being booted like any normal player on the market, it’s this silly ass PlayStation store icon. What, we said we’d like being bombard with that sometime in the past or something? Further, couldn’t that scrolling bar and that clock be able to autohide, or toggled on or off? It’s more annoying than Kanye West and his pop a tops! Really. And trust me, there’s more downgrades than upgrades that I could go on about. I’m not sure if Sony likes their position of third place in the consle market right now, but it means they aren’t doing more than a few somethings. These unpleasant travesties aren’t helping.
My 80gig PS3 has also stopped reading discs following the update leaving me pretty damn upset about this! I’d like to see Sony release a fix or something before I spend any of my hard earned money.
1 thing i totally HATE is the xmb fading, if ure gonna add a fade feature how about giving us the option of using it or not in themes, its totally driving me crazy, going through the files and trying to decide what to play but most the choices are dissapearing on u, unless u keep scrolling up and down sigh… really thats all i want fixed!!! and its a 2 sec delay, if ure not gonna give us the option atleast make it 5-10 seconds delay or more.. SIGH
