New Apple iPod Nano vs. Flip Video Camera
By: Alan Ng | September 9, 2009 | 5 CommentsAs most you will be already aware, Apple announced a brand new iPod Nano at their Media Event in San Francisco. As well as some other hardware additions, Steve Jobs announced that it will come packed with a ‘free’ video recorder.
During his announcement, Jobs spoke about the Flip Video Camera and how their most popular models are suitably priced at $149. Then came the bombshell about the iPod Nano and that Apple will be adding a ‘free’ video camera into every iPod Nano, as well as pricing it at the same $149 point.
We have a comparison to give you now, between two popular Flip Video products and the new iPod Nano. At the moment, the Flip Video Mino and Flip Video Ultra are both available for $149 and come in a variety of colors .
The iPod Nano features a larger 2.2-inch display with a 376 x 240 resolution, while the new video camera can shoot VGA quality H.264 footage, with up to 30fps and AAC audio. It has a built in FM radio, Pedometer, VoiceOver support and 24 hours battery life (audio), 5 hours battery life (video). As for size, the 5G Nano will remain at 3.6- x 1.5- x 0.24-inches and is reportedly 0.02 ounces lighter than the previous version.
If you compare that to the Flip Video Mino, it can also shoot VGA footage with a 640×480 resolution, along with the same 30fps and H.264 video compression.
Apart from the same price point, we’d have to favor the new iPod Nano, considering the multimedia package that you’ll be getting for your $149. Apple have got it spot on with the new version, so you definitely should consider picking one up on release.
