Microsoft rivals defending Linux with patents
By: Alan Ng | September 9, 2009 | Leave a CommentIt has been revealed that a group of Linux proponents are planning to purchase patents that were previously held by Microsoft, in an attempt to protect the open-source OS from patent litigation.
As reported from Computer World, the move is being conducted by the OIN (Open Invention Network) and will see them purchase 22 patents from the AST (Allied Security Trust).
It’s no secret that Microsoft and Linux have been rivals for quite some time now, as Microsoft have stated a number of times that Linux violates more than 235 patents that Microsoft holds, a statement that Linux strongly deny.
