Apple iPhone 3.1 Update: Will it solve battery problems?

With the upcoming Apple media event just hours away, many users will be glued to their computer screens expecting to hear news on one particular feature. We are not talking about the new iPods or new Tablets, but rather the next iPhone 3.1 OS update.

As reported from RedmondPie, the feature that most of you will be hoping to hear, is improved battery life for the iPhone and iPhone 3GS within the next update.

We are pretty sure you wont need us to list the reasons why more battery life is badly needed for the iPhone, although the problems are not just down to Apple. More like, all the countless amounts of software and media features that are available for the device.

Lets not forget that the iPhone’s primary function is a phone, and the battery life would probably fine if just used for that, but with all the features available on the iPhone today, it’s no wonder that battery life is so poor.

Check out the article in the link above and let us know what you are expecting from the iPhone OS 3.1 update.

Nope, unless they’ve done something miraculous since the last beta (3) and what is actually released there has been no battery life improvement whatsoever. In fact in my testing of the 3 beta releases, battery life is somewhat worse.

3.1 Beta was released on Jun 30th. A lot can change in 2 months.

    hey guys,

it’s nice that some of you don’t got the problem with short battery life, but thousands of people out there with 2G, 3G, and even 3GS have huge trouble with this since 3.0 firmware. with 2.2 everything was still fine. now battery last max. 24h (on stand by!)
so NOW it’s time that apple fix this shit. if they don’t do, there are even not better than any other computer brand and manufacturer out there. selling 2 years old technics inside of their devices and only packed in an nice shiny design. and this for relay expensive prices. a shame…

    cheers

Since installing 3.1 my phone has shut itself off completely twice in the last 18 hours. That should extend battery life.

  5. sox2 says:

I had to return my iPhone 3gs the battery only lasted 16hrs max (3g turned off) about 2 1-min calls.
Only 1 month old. At the beginning lasted 4-5 days.
This is bull…it from Apple !!!!!!!

  6. sam6 says:

same here, since upgrading to 3.1 my battery life went from fully charged to 88% in less than 1 hour whilst I was on the underground going to work…
3g and wifi are turned off.

Push mail seems worse off as well.

I’ve deleted apps and turned off push and location services and this has helped some, but it’s still no where near as good as it was before I *upgraded* to 3.1. I was hoping the device would level off and maybe adjust itself and settle back down after a couple days, but it’s still running hot and shutting down intermittently. But what really has me ticked off is that when I tried to go back and undo the update, i see apple has taken away the ability to go back. I just want it to work like it did before! You can have the new genius feature or whatever back! It’s not worth the loss of functionality and the joy being sucked out of my little best friend.
